Problems with Exiting School

Nursing Students Student Assist

I attended a nursing school in NJ (I don't want to mention the name.. yet) and it has been a complete nightmare and the worst experience of my entire life. I finished all the courses in May 2010 and even attended a HORRIBLE graduation in December. I'm still trying to finish their exit exam and it's not because I can't pass it, it's because they've been jerking us around, they're constantly changing the exam and the passing score. I took ATI and failed, which I understood but then took HESI 4 months later and got an 867 which they had let people pass with before and now they're saying we need a 900. I go in to take HESI again and they tell us that HESI was compromised (which i was aware of) and they're giving us a test that they got from another school that they thought was good. We spent 3 hours taking it and then they tell us that they don't like it and they're not going to count it. I'm sick of going though this, I don't know what to do. And on top of all this, I hear that people are paying the professors and administrators to get out of the school. It's insane! Does anyone have any advice? PLEASE!!

I'm confused. You graduated in May 2010? Why not walk away from the school?

Do you need to pass these tests before they release you to take the NCLEX? We don't have exit exams at our school so I don't understand.

If you HAVE to take these tests in order for the school to release you, I would suggest going in and talking with the Dean. I would state that if you don't have the test information by March 31st and your information released by the school to take the NCLEX by April 15th, you are going to hire an attorney (be professional when you state this and do not make it sound like a threat, make it sound like you don't want to do this but this is the last resort for you).

Finally, how can your classmates pay their way out of school? So these people aren't having to take a test? I'm really confused....

Almost a year later and you're still battling an exit exam? I would be livid.

Just out of curiosity, what score is 100% on the HESI?

Yes, they require us to pass the exit exam in order for us to NCLEX. I'm going in on Friday to take the test, yet again. If I have another problem, I am going to talk to her in regards to this non sense. And I'm not sure what the people who are paying are doing, whether they are getting the answers to ensure they pass or just not having to take it. Since some schools do not require an exit, can I call the NJ Board of Nursing and see what they say?

I would've been upset a long time ago if I were in your shoes and you have every right to be upset!

If something is wrong on Friday, you have every right to call the NJ Board of Nursing and see what they say. In fact, I would've already made a complaint against this school. Good luck and I hope it works out for you!

They gave us the NLN test on Friday and I passed! So i'm excited and can finally move on. Thanks for the advice everyone!
