Problem with Low overall GPA

Published

Can anyone please advise if I can still apply for the nursing program even with a low GPA?

Hi,

I am from another country and I wanna become a nurse. My 'high school' GPA is a 2.0, so really not good. The school system in Germany is different than here, you can go to 8,9,10 and 12 year schools that give you all different degrees and have different difficulties (less years are the easiest, most years are the most difficult and only with the 12 year degree you can go to college/university). I went for the 10 year degree first where I graduated with a 3.7 GPA, then went for the 12y degree, but theres a lot of stuff that I haven't had done in the lower school type so it's kinda hard to do that step. So that's how I ended up with a 2.0.

Anyway, I just wanted to know how they actually calculate the overall GPA? Your final high school report card? All of your report cards you ever got in HS? What if you did already 1-2years in college?

I'm sorry that question may seem stupid but i really don't know how that works here in the US ;-)

I'd really appreciate somebody anwering me that question ... thank you! :)

Most schools overall GPA has to be over 2.0 but some are more picky. One of the schools I applied to needed applicants to have 2.7 minimum for last 60 units so check with the individual schools you are considering. They vary. Some take cumulative GPA and others just prereqs. If you are unsure if you qualify, you can use an online GPA calculator or schedule a counseling appointment.
