PRN position offered, can i take it?

U.S.A. New York

Hello everyone:

I am a new grad RN. My PCP has been kind enough to try and help me out while I job search. He's helped me in the past and now is asking if I would be willing to do follow up visits to some of his patients in their homes to take vitals and administer medications. I am comfortable doing either, but am I allowed to do this?

Thanks in advance!

Nope. Unfortunately, nothing yet.

Haven't heard back either. But I am already in orientation for my new job with hospital of NYC HHC so it does not matter anymore. I told you Montefiore is very slow with everything HR/hiring related. I am grateful were I am at now. It is Montefiore's loss, is how I see it, they took too long so I went elsewhere. Good luck to all of you still waiting on them.

Glad to hear! Congratulations! Hows orientation going thus far? Please share your experience, if you don't mind. :)

Hi. Orientation was 2 weeks of classroom orientation in which we learned policies, procedures, and reviewed clinical skills. Out of 11 RNs in this months orientation, 7 were new grads from 2011 or 2012. After 2 weeks we went to our units, where we are assigned Preceptors and will be in orientation for 8-12 wks depending on our department. If our department includes several units we rotate through each unit. It's a great learning experience so far. If you want more specifics you can let me know your email and we can discuss. I would say send me PM on here, but you need to have over a certain number of posts on allnurses.com in order to be able to sent PMs.

Nice! I'm glad you're enjoying the experience so far. I FINALLY heard back from Montefiore 2 weeks ago! They offered me a part time position in oncology. :) I'm also waiting to hear back from Mout Sinai though, so i don't know. In the meantime I started the background check and such for Montefiore. And i can't PM you yet

Congratulations! Finally something...this job search was too long right? In my second week of orientation I got another job offer and then job interview call for another hospital. Really, now... Once I am no longer looking for a hospital job they start calling me....lol. My job so far is very busy and the orientation and all does not leave me time to pick up any shifts elsewhere. What is a part time schedule like? My email is [email protected] , In case you want to contact me.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if you began working at Monti and if so, how's it going? What's it like? How many hours are you required to work and what kjnd of shift is it? Congrats on the position!

Hi. Actually, I did not go to Montefiore. Montefiore took too long with their HR interviewing process (over 3 months) and while waiting I received an offer from an HHC hospital, KCH in Brooklyn so I took it. I think everything for a reason because I really like my job at KCH. My advice to you is apply everywhere and what is a good place for you will work out, not immediately but in due time.

Thank you!..Seriously, way too long! Yeah I hate that offers come after you already said yes. But hey. Yeah picking up extra shifts would be crazy. And well, it's supposed to be 2 days a week, but I work a full time schedule while on orientation. I love it though. I mean, at least the unit I'm being oriented on. They started me on a med-surg floor, then I go to oncology. Thanks for the e-mail. I'll probably contact you sometime. How's it going for you now?

Hi. Thank you! Yes, I am working at Monte now and thus far it's been great! The nurses are very receptive to new grads and definitely facilitate the experience from student to nurse (at least for the floor I'm on.) I was hired for part time day shift which is at least 37.5 hours biweekly, but right now I work full time; 72 hours biweekly. Orientation always starts on days- but if you work nights, they work you day and then nights. For me, my manager decided I'll be orienting days and then the last week I'll do nights since there may be a full time night position opening up.

Good to hear it's going well for you. All good with me also, just finished orientation and started working on shift. We were cross trained to other areas of our department. I like working in city hospital as we get patients with all types of Dx, some which private hospitals do not take so they come to public hospital. Some of our patients are OB and med-surg at the same time as they come in with more than just OB problems. We also take care of their babies/help the moms (if the patients gave birth). We have high volume of patients so there is very little down time.

Hello,

There is no way to send private messages on this website so I am contacting you on here. Anyway...I am a new nurse with no experience. I had an interview with montefiore on Feb 6. Now I am anxiously waiting to hear back. The NM said I will hear back from HR if I am hired, but this wait is killing me. Especially since my parents are pressuring me to take a temporary job (at a psychiatric hospital) that I do not really want because its not going to provide me with med surgical skills that I need for my future goals. So here are my questions: How long is the wait to hear back from Montefiore and should I contact the NM and ask about a time frame? Also if I take this job and Montefiore contacts me to offer me the job what should I do? Because my first instinct will be to take it and leave this place immediately even if Ive only been working there for 2 weeks. Dilemmas. Please respond as soon as you are able, you can also contact me on my email [email protected]
