private school or UC/CSU?

U.S.A. California

Hi! I need some advice!

This is my second semester as a pre-nursing student at a community college in California, then transfering to a university?/UC?/CSU? for my RN and then MSN later on..

I was wondering if there are any advantages of going to a private school like University of San Francisco or does it not matter?

I have heard many good things about USF they're one of the top nursing schools in nation but as to states i dont know much about their programs..

I pretty sure that it doesnt matter to the hiring managers at hospitals as long as you pass your NCLEX but if there's really no differences between them than everyone would go to state and UC's to save money.

Please let know, it would be really helpful because I'm trying to decide.:idea:

I think if you can afford the private school, then go for it. However, the states ones are perfectly fine as well. Now, if you have to take a loan on the private, please think twice, do you really want to see that student loan bill with lots of digits every month? It will take years to pay them off!

You are totally right about the HR at hospitals, as long as you pass your NCLEX, they won't care which school you went or what grades you had.

Good luck!

As long as the school is accredited and has a relatively high pass rate for the NCLEX then it doesn't matter what the name is. I had a friend who was considering applying to a nursing school which was private with no waitlist nor essay application involved but would complete her associate in nursing in two years. however, she checked the nclex pass rate for the school and only 60% passed!!! The school is also considered private (kinda like Heald or DeVry). Why invest in so much when the school can barely prepare their students to pass the nclex?! Research the schools!!!

Um,

in case you havent noticed but there isn't any jobs for nurses, especially new nurses.

You might want to not do private on account of the nonexistent job. No job = no way to pay off loans, ESPECIALLY BIG ONES.

SO think twice before attending a private unless they will hand you a job right out of school (mostly no the case)

good luck

Apply to the UCs/CSU's

that is what I am doing this August!

Yea, it really doesn't matter what school you go to. Wherever you go, you will need to learn the same things. I'm planning on transferring to CSU's next fall. I really wanted to transfer to USF as well, but the cost is extremely high, and like the person before me said, they don't hand you a job right outta school. There is Samuel Merrit University in Oakland, which is a private school. I believe they get you in w/ Kaiser right after you graduate. I'm planning on going there for my MSN.
