Priority Questions- Nclex-rn

Nursing Students NCLEX

hi everyone!

I am going to be re-taking my nclex-rn exam next week and wondering of anyone had any advice for me regarding the "who do you see first" priority type questions. I always think ABC but I've heard now that the "ABC" method does not essentially work? I tend to struggle with this even in the clinical world bc every patient always seems critical to me :( Please Help!

This is what I used and it helped me tremendously. I bought it even cheaper from either half.com or amazon.com don't remember which but heck it's cheap anyway. Best of Luck :nurse:

Are you using Kaplan? According to them, read the answer choices and eliminate the patients that are the most stable. When you have two patients left, use the ABCs to select the most UNSTABLE patient. Also, patients that require teaching about drugs or need procedures done are NOT your first priority. I am taking my NCLEX RN next Monday also....a little scared, nervous, frustrated...I have been doing Kaplan all along for about 5 weeks now. It helps!

Know your Infection Control procedures: Droplet, Airborne, Contact. I had a boatload on both my first and second exam. When prioritizing, remember that people who are immunocompromised tend to come before someone with a contagious infection. I guess you could say Clean (immunocompromised person undergoing chemo treatments) before dirty(pneumonia, mrsa) because you don't want to spread the dirty to the clean. Know your meds although you can't really predict what they'll use. I rarely ever got a med that I'd heard of. I think you'll do great. If I can pass my 2nd time around, then I think you can.

Meridian - Did you feel the second time was harder and difficult than the first try. I am using Kaplan and its helping. The first time I failed with 262 questions mainly because I got really nervous from the beginning and did not read carefully. What did you use or how did you practice for the second time? thanks - maverickemt.

The first time I just used the Sandra Smith NCLEX book that we got when Nursing school started. When I failed I used this older version of Saunders and also Exam Cram and a few other books, but I couldn't stay focused. Our Nursing instructors gave us the passwords for the ATI practice tests so I used that also, but like the others, I had a hard time concentrating. I found the second one to be just as hard as the first and when it stopped at 75 my heart dropped. I felt like I didn't really answer anything correctly except for like a Hyperthyroidism question. I absolutely hated the SATA questions because I rarely ever did well on them in school. After the first failure, I focused on priority and infection control and believe me, they came in handy because the infection control questions seem to come back to back. I put on my headphones a few minutes into the test and got a headache and couldn't concentrate and I thought because of that that I had failed. For every person it's different. People talk about the difficulty of the questions, well on my test, in my opinion, it was ALL hard. I think you'll do well this time around. You survived clinicals and exams in Nursing school, you can do it.:nurse:
