Hi,
I came across a question today that was about coming to a pediatric asthma patient's room and finding him dyspneic.... the two answer choices I was torn between were "position in high fowler's" or "apply O2".....there was no information given on whether this patient was lying flat in bed or already sitting up, so I chose the O2....but now I am thinking.... wouldnt you sit them up FIRST? I don't know what the answer is since this was a comprehensive predictor and didnt give me answers or rationales. I feel like the more tests I take, the dumber I get....
thanks!

Always do the least invasive first, so sit up would likely be the answer.

If it didn't state they were sitting up, assume they weren't or it wouldn't be a choice.
I had a hard time w/some of these "narrowed down" questions as well, but remember "Always do the first thing that can hopefully give IMMEDIATE relief", and "least invasive" as the above thread!!
Don't freak, you had it narrowed down to the right 2!!
your 1/2 way there!!
YOU GOT THIS!

it's true that you should sit the patient up before doing anything else

I would also sit them up first. That might be all they need.
Thank you all. Now that you put it that way.....I agree that sitting up should be the FIRST intervention. These tests really make you second-guess the simplest concepts....
