There are not many, well hardly any, schools in Cali that offer the sciences online, and if they do, they are hybrid courses (lecture online/lab oncampus). But many of the other courses you need (stat, pysch, nutri, etc.) are offered online at various schools, if you haven't taken them already. But for the sciences (anatomy, physiology, micro), you will find them at other universities and community colleges in other states. However, now you are confronted with paying out-of-state tutition fees, which can be quite expensive! Some schools in Oregon offer in-state tution to Cali residents and other surrounding states. If you do a search on Allnurses, you will find TONS of threads on online courses - which ones are good, which are tough, which have a hard time transferring (I think this applies to Excelsior (sp) courses).
My best advice to you is if you want to take online sciences, make sure that the nursing programs you plan on applying to will accept them. Some will, some won't. Many will require you to send in the syllabus and/or course description, and their biggest concern is how the lab will be performed and if it is sufficient enough to compare to a live lab. I'm taking anatomy and phsyiology (seperate courses) online at Southeast Community College in Nebraska (I'm a Los Angeles resident). The courses are great and tutition is only $57 for out-of-state. I'm also considering microbiology online for spring qtr in March at Clackamas or Eastern Oregon (that's if I can't get into the course at Trade Tech or UCLA extension, which is about $400). Luckily, I fulfilled all of the other prereqs in my undergrad degree 8 years ago. Again, there are a lot of schools that offer these courses, but make sure you check with the schools you want to go to first. Hope this helps. Good luck!
