Preparing for Applying for Nursing Program?

Published

Okay, so I was looking at all the requirments for applying and once you're accepted. For CCSN at least, the shots and stuff is what has got me. Does anyone know how we can find out if we've had all the shots? I mean it's been years since I've had shots like Mumps, and all that. Can't remember if I got all the Hep B shots..I do remember getting a shot after I had my daughter in 1995, I wanna say it was the Rubella shot! I remember having a TB test, that was awhile ago too. I think when I applied for my health card. I am trying to apply for the Spring program, so I wonder if starting all that now would be a good idea? Anyone else taken care of this and applying?

There isn't much patient interaction, other than escorting them from their room to the door and passing out a few meal trays. The positive is that you can meet people in the departments that may help you with getting a nursing apprentice position after 1st semester! Good luck on acceptance!!!!

"Proof of Healthcare provider level BLS which MUST be done in a course approved by the American Heart Association. If you get it done at the Red Cross, you'll be doing the class again. A lot of people made this mistake".

Comment:

This practice is not legal (but is still done) and CAN be corrected just by calling your local chapter of the American Red Cross. Ask to speak to someone in the Health & Safety Dept and tell them that you need a copy of the *Consortium Agreement between ARC and AHA*. They will happily make you a copy. [*AHA has a consortium agreement with ARC that states that BLS and CPRO are equal to one another! As long as you have taken the CPRO class you are covered, as the agreement is BLS = CPRO.*]

I personally have had several HC institutions accept my cert (as long as I provided them with this agreement) even if the application said "BLS only." I always carry a copy when going to interviews or to apply for a job and say when they ask for certs and don't want to take my CPRO card:

"Oh, I have a copy of the Consortium Agreement b/t ARC & AHA, would you like a copy of it for your files?" They are usually caught off guard and say "yes, for my superiors."
