There's not a whole lot of people that reply to the prelicensure program questions here. When I have time I try to reply. I really like WGU's program. There are things I don't like about it, but overall I think it's a great program that turns out great nurses. They really seem to focus on what you need to know to do the job. If you have specific questions I'll try to answer.
Does it really tale 2.5 years? How was your first term? Did you have a bachels before applying to the program? When will you be done? What is the GPA requirement? TEAS score? How have you been able to stay on task with your courses? Do you work full time? Describe the things about the program that you don't like.
Does it really tale 2.5 years?
Yes, you can't do it any faster than that.
How was your first term?
First term was pretty easy compared to the rest of the terms. It gets harder as you go along, but once you get used to things it's not too bad.
Did you have a bachels before applying to the program?
Nope, but most people I have seen in the program did. I didn't even have an associates degree, but I had all the prereqs.
When will you be done?
Soon, I'd rather not give specifics on that with this being a public forum.
What is the GPA requirement? TEAS score?
I don't know that there is a GPA requirement or a set TEAS score. Some states are more competitive than others. I do think Indiana is probably getting more competitive now that the program is better known in the area. I can't confirm that though.
How have you been able to stay on task with your courses? Do you work full time?
I'm fairly self driven and organized so staying on task has not been difficult for me. Others do have more trouble with that. The mentors though kind of help keep you on task because they give you deadlines and check in on you to make sure you are staying on schedule. I do not work at this time.
Describe the things about the program that you don't like.
I wish they had more open lab time to practice new skills. You kind of wind up having to do a lot of that independently. For me those things are hard for me to see what I am doing wrong if someone is not watching you. I'd like it more if they had open lab access for practice. I also wish they had more podcasts or videos for people that are audio learners.
Thanks a lot for your input. I am completing Micro and studying for the TEAS now. I hope to make it into the May cohort Indiana.
How do I PM you?
