Prejudice against online CNM programs?

Published

I was just wondering if it matters whether you choose an online CNM program versus one where you have to actually, physically go to classes and clinicals. Do employers look for one and not the other, or is it more about experience and interviewing?

Well, "online" CNM schools do still require in person, live clinicals just like brick and mortar grad schools do.

Even online programs require in-person clinicals. The only thing online about it is the didactic portion (and even then, some programs still require you to go on-campus for certain classes/training).

Just wanted to ask if I trained as a Midwife in the UK how successful would I be in getting work as a british Midwife in the USA?

There are some other threads on this topic but to work as a nurse midwife in the US you must be an RN with a master's degree and certfication as a nurse midwife from the American Midwifery certification Board.

OP, most schools these days are using online classes for most of their curriculum. Only certain classes are offered in person. Generally the online schools (I am thinking Frontier, Case Western) are well respected. You still have to do regular clinicals like any student and the challenge with an online school is that you are usually responsible for finding your own preceptor. I don't think there will be any issue in looking for a job, etc with online programs, they are pretty well ingrained in midwifery education.

Thank you CEG for that so helpful. Another thing I wanted to ask, would I be able to do a Masters degree online if I am a british nurse?

The best education I ever had was a long distance nurse-midwifery program. Not only did the long distance program make becoming a CNM possible, but I loved not having the constraints of being in class at a certain time of the day. Instead, I could do my course work around my family time. The faculty were extraordinarily well educated with vast experiences around the world. I also felt very close to my classmates, who were from around the country. While going into the program, having close friends was not important to me, a bond formed that was very important to me. And......my faculty & fellow classmates were available 24/7. All hands on is with a local CNM. Be careful about the long distance program you choose because there are a couple that do not have good reputations & I would not accept a student from those programs. I had thought I would go to Frontier, but once I looked into different programs, there was alot about another school that I preferred. Check out Philadelphia University: The Midwifery Institute Best of luck!
