Pregnant! When to tell supervisor?

Published

Hey guys, first off, hooray!!! I'm 2-3 weeks pregnant. Suuuuuperexcited!!! I'm an OR nurse (and a new grad-could I have picked a crazier more stressful time in life??) and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and let my DON and charge nurse know because of x-ray/chemicals like formalin/heavy-ish lifting that is common in the OR setting? When did y'all tell? What do you think? Obviously it's too early to tell family and friends, but I want to make sure I protect my little nugget as best as I can and it will be hard as a circulator to stand behind a door during X-ray without 'splainin a little. Ahhhhhh my husband and I are thrilled!!!!!! Wheeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your insight :-)

I agree with CheesePotato..normally, there is no reason to tell right off the bat unless you work in an area like yours. To me, that is an exception.

You did the right thing.
