Pregnant Students

First year school nurse here. How do you guys handle pregnant students? I have ZERO background with OB and have never had kids. Every time I had to deal with OB patients in the ER, I got their vitals and up to the ward they went. That specialty is my nursing kryptonite. Do you guys do anything for them in your clinic or just send them home? Obviously if its minor things I try to keep them at school but so far anytime they c/o abdominal pain, bleeding, basically anything a mint or bandaid can't fix, I just send them home. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Does your school have any kind of policy or procedures for handling the attendance of pregnant youth? If they're just winging it, then I think you're essentially doing the right thing...

You could always support them while they call their OB and let the OB decide what needs to be done.

Does your district have a Teen Parent Program? Many in my area do and usually there is an RN or two assigned who have resources.
