Preceptorships in Charlotte area hospitals

Published

I am just now applying to Nursing School but have been gaining some invaluable information reading these boards. One thing that has scared me is the horror stories people have about their orientation experiences. I was just wondering if some might be willing to share their good experiences (as most may not want to share the bad but feel free) about their orientations in Charlotte area hospitals as that is where I will be working when I do graduate.

Thanks in advance!

By orientation do you mean for your first job? B/c I completed a preceptorship in my last semester as well as clinicals at CMC-Mercy, Main, and Pineville. Personally, CMC was not my favorite hospital system. There were good and bad points along the way of course. I chose not to work for them after graduation but almost my entire class did. Mostly b/c they owed money for a school loan that the hospital paid. I was most disturbed by the hiring process that they put the girls through. They really weren't concerned with what you wanted so much as what they needed. Some girls didn't have jobs come graduation time and there was no reason for this seeing as I know they need nurses and both of these girls were strong clinically. It just left a bad taste in my mouth seeing as I had interviewed in other parts of the state and they made me feel like they really needed me and were interested in what area I wanted to work in.

Thanks fitnessangel! That is exactly the type of insite I was looking for. I am really curious what the environment is like for new nurses in this area from graduation to first job, through orientation. Thanks again!
