  1. Stethoscope $ Dansko Shoes $ Textbooks $$$ Tuition $$$$ First Day of Nursing School.....Priceless! My orientation starts next week (4 days!) and first day of class on the 24th. Good luck everybody! We have already worked hard just to get to this point and the fun has only begun!
  2. Hi all! I was reading what the CDC was recommending as the first wave of those to receive the H1N1 vaccine this Fall....I know healthcare workers are on the list but what about us students doing clinicals in the hospitals? I am just starting in August and was wondering what anyone thinks or has heard about students being in the first wave as well. Thanks!
  3. I actually received an acceptance letter from Mercy over the weekend. Similar situation, I have a BA in another field however I requested their part-time evening/weekend program. I know they rank the people on the waitlist and as people either decline the acceptance or do not return their deposit they turn to the waitlist. I know it requested my information and deposit be returned by 3/24 if that helps any. Best of luck to you!
  4. tisha217 - if you are wanting to be an LPN and have the issue I do that you have to work during the day and go to school at night, Mercy is launching a PT Evening/Weekend option this fall....just an FYI.
  5. Hi lanceeesse! I read your post from last month and thought I would tell you that I live in a small town called Belmont....we are just 12 miles west of downtown Charlotte (where I currently work) and are 2 hours from Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains....we are also 3 hours from Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Great place to live and I would recommend it to anybody!
  6. Thanks fitnessangel! That is exactly the type of insite I was looking for. I am really curious what the environment is like for new nurses in this area from graduation to first job, through orientation. Thanks again!
  7. I am just now applying to Nursing School but have been gaining some invaluable information reading these boards. One thing that has scared me is the horror stories people have about their orientation experiences. I was just wondering if some might be willing to share their good experiences (as most may not want to share the bad but feel free) about their orientations in Charlotte area hospitals as that is where I will be working when I do graduate. Thanks in advance!
  8. I am sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it....when you work 3 12 hours shifts, do you get paid for 36 hours or 40 hours? If you take on an extra shift, do you get paid overtime after you work the 40 hours or anything over 36? Thanks in advance!!!!!!
  9. Thanks traumaRUs! I had not even thought about a Unit Clerk. I know I will make nothing near what I do now even when I graduate but hope to come as close to making ends meet in the meantime as possible. Thanks again!
  10. Hi All! I am new here and I am looking to do what I have always wanted and return to school for Nursing. I have a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business and am taking me pre-requisites so hopefully if accepted will only have to complete my nursing courses. My current job is being relocated in the next two years so I am depending on severance and some savings to help me through the financial toll of going back to school. I am already leaving a well paying job to follow this dream (70k per year) and will have to work while in school since I have a house and other bills. Since there are no evening RN programs currently in the Charlotte area, I will have to attend school in the day. I was just wondering what jobs people have worked while in school that fit in with their school schedule? Is there anyone like me who is doing a total career change and trying to get work too that might have some advice? Sorry to be long winded....this is just something I have been wanting to do for about 5 years now and I am hoping that as rough as it is to have your job go away, it may be the opportunity I have been looking for to make this happen. Thanks all and would love to hear from others in the same boat!
