It is so very difficult to reach anyone and if you do they have a student , etc., etc, etc,

Have you tried your state NP association? They usually have preceptor lists. Can you have MDs precept you? If so do you have any MDs that you know or are friendly with? How much help do your school give you? I know my program was little to no help unless you were close to the professors.

You may also want to ask if a PA can precept. My program let me have a PA preceptor as long as I had had at least a few NPs as preceptors. I also had 2 MD preceptors who were wonderful.

I too had this issue in my program, but was able to secure one each rotation just in time. Due to this issue, I am in the process of trying to locate preceptors in each state to be of assistance. I know how hard it is.

I can imagine! What state are you? Tidy up your resume with a great introductory letter and walk into as many clinics as you can. Attend your local NP meeting and request that they let you talk fir 2mins. I am assuming you are already some form of NP...so, being 'precepted' in a clinic will mostly translate to 'seeing' their patients which generates more revenue.
