Hi, I am precepting a nurse that is new to the cath lab, and the nurse is not where they should be at this point in orientation. How do I give this feedback in a nice way?

Be honest. Point out expected benchmarks, and discuss where this nurse is in relation to that. Then help that nurse to come up with a plan to get to where they need to be. Discuss with manager as well, so that everyone is on the same page

I am in this situation right now, but from the preceptee side.

I am not where I should be. I would make clear of the expected criteria. Teach and evaluate. I mean you can only teach but can't expect that all your preceptee will pass. In my case I'm making fewer errors, but not by the end of my preceptorship. So, I am put on suspension. I am just puzzling why they asked me to write a reflection what can they do to help me fix my mistake so that they can make a plan. It sounded finished to me. I even told them that is there even a point. I made clear that if they terminate me, I'll just leave. Do you know why managers do this?

It sounds like you care about how your preceptee might feel to negative feedback. I think that caring and kindness will come through when you communicate the negative information. It is not easy to pass judgement on someone, but it is part of working in any jobs. If you are fair, willing and able to teach. The rest will fall where they might fall. You are not responsible for other people's feelings and emotion, but you are responsible on how kind you treat others.
