Hi Guys,
I begin my final semester precepting on the Oncology floor in our local hospital next week. During clinicals we only had one or two patients. My preceptor said we would normally have 4-6 during precepting.
Do you have any suggestion for keeping track of multiple patients, "brain sheets" etc...
Thanks much,

Are you a student? It is difficult for me to determine. In any case, I am not a student but I completed my senior preceptorship on a hematology unit (and my first job and current job is also on a hematology unit). In both places, I had/have three patients on the norm. I have a great brain from that senior preceptorship created just for the heme unit that is landscape orientation and divided into three equal segments. Three years later I am still using that brain. When I have that occasional fourth patient, I just use another paper, but having all my patient information on one sheet of paper is really convenient. I fold it up and stick it in my pocket and don't have to deal with shuffling through three or four sheets of paper. I can send you a scanned copy if you like so you can get an idea, if you like.

When you say you're "precepting" it makes it sound like you're the preceptor, but then you say that you have a preceptor, so I'm going to assume that you are actually the student.
I keep a sheet of paper with labs (know the ones that are especially important to your unit), onc history, information given to me in report, and last time PRN meds were given. Sometimes I'll write out meds/times just in case the computer system goes down.
I'm the kind of person who likes to have everything on hand, but I also know of people who rely solely on the computer.

I would appreciate if I can also get the copy of the brain you are using. I am in my final year of nursing school and beginning my consolidated semester next week in oncology with my preceptor.
My email address is [email protected]. Thanks

Hello db2xs- I know this thread is really old, but if you still have your oncology brain sheet available, I would appreciate a copy. Thank you!
