I don't do much peds anymore and never used Precedex in that population but in adult ICU we use regular tubing. I clarified that with the reps when we were rolling it out. It is an aqueous solution and has a standard 24 hr hang time on the bag (not that our bags ever last m0ore than 3 hours, LOL) and 96 hour life on the tubing. (because we do often use it for 48 hours... new guidelines should be coming out from the company in the next year) The only booklet I can find here doesn't address tubing. I'll see if I can find the newer one and if that says anything.
Our precedex drips are run on a syringe pump and it's not filtered, we just use regular medline tubing. For awhile we were putting things that were less run at less than 1 ml an hour on pressure sensing tubing but it was too difficult to change out so we went back to using the same tubing for everything run on a syringe pump.

Hey everyone, so recently our unit has been using Precedex for those hard to sedate kids who are working up on getting extubated. I've tried to read up on Precedex and the tubing requirements but I'm kinda confused. So the question is, what kind of tubing are you using with your Precedex drips? Are you using filters?
Thanks!
