Pre test percentage..

Published

Hi. I am taking my RN-NCLEX for the second time in about 3-4 weeks and I am also a very poor test taker. I would like to know what we should be scoring on the pre-test and the mini-quizzes at the end of each lesson(NCSBN online Review course I am doing)? I need to know where I stand in relation to passing or failing. (I am a foreign trained nurse finished graduation

9yrs back). Pls, don't say that there is no percentage etc...pls let me know approx percentage from ur exp. Thanks.

Hi there

I have heard from many different sources that you shouldn't take the NCLEX until you are getting a consistent 75% on your practice test questions.

When I started reviewing, my Kaplan diagnostic test gave me a very dismal 55%, but with persistence and doing thousands of practice questions from a variety of sources - Kaplan, Mosby, Mosby CAT, and NCSBN online - my percentages are now 73 - 75% on average - sometimes MUCH higher, but seldom lower! I am also foreign-trained, but graduated even farther back than you, (ha ha!!) so I know how hard studying is at this stage.

But knowledge is only half of what you need to pass the NCLEX. The other half is knowing how to read the questions so that you fully understand what is actually being asked. That way, if you don't know the answer straight away, you can often work it out. That is the main thing that has brought my percentages up, I would say, learning to interpret what is really being asked!!

Re test-taking anxiety, there are some excellent posts on this forum about that, you should check them out!!

Good luck. I'm scheduled for my NCLEX on June 1st, so counting down alongside you!! :)

Blessings

Elleann
