Can anyone tell me about the pre-reqs to apply for the nursing program at Suffolk? For whatever reason, I can't access the site. I keep getting an error message. I have a BA in psych if that makes a difference. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what courses I need to complete before applying. Gah! Thanks in advance for any info.

If you already have a degree in psych have you considered doing one of those accelerated nursing programs? There are many posts here on different schools: stony brook, columbia, pace, nyu.
If thats not your thing you may have to just call the suffolk admissions office. One thing to keep in mind is that community schools and cuny schools tend to be harder to get into so always have a back up choice.

I though microbiology was not an actual pre-req and it just helped you get in? Like you could take it AFTER you applied and it carried a small amount of weight because usually you take it while IN the program?
Sorry Islandgurlie that I have not answered been busy yes all A's except for ENG 101 got a B+, BIO 244 I took after I applied and I got a B in that one.
RpmSteve no you don't need Micro to apply but if your grades are low in your other classes this will help you get in easier if you have it before you get into nursing. And taking a Nursing class with Micro is very hard that's why they recommend that you take Micro before Nursing.
Congrats on your acceptance. Isn't it exciting

first off a BIG CONGRATS to you!!!
as crazy as this may sound..does anyone know if SCCC accepts CLEP test for any of these or at least ENG101 and how about MAT007 and CHE100?
I can't seem to find any info on the website.
Thanks!
Monters,
I believe that they except Clep from ENG 101 and PSY 101, I don't know about MAT007 and I defenitly do know not CHEM100
You can call admissions and they can send you some info 631-451-4000 hope this helps
Good Luck!
thank you for the info! I called and they do accept both but said its not recommended taking CLEP unless you already have taken the class and didn't get a good enough grade. I was under the impression you can take a CLEP to save time and money.
It's true that you would save money, but what if you get a low grade on the CLEP and have to take the class now, tey still look at your CLEP score. I believe that is why they don't recommend it, because it won't look good when you apply. If you feel confident enough why not take it, all they can tell you is they don't recommend it but it is still your choice if you want to take them. More power to you! I know I wouldn't even try, it is easy to get an A in class their is room to improve your grade throughout the semester, but with CLEP the grade you get you have to live with.
Thank you appreciate the feedback.
Actually there is no grade for CLEP. Its only pass or fail. This is what Suffolk community advised me anyway.
Hmm, I may just try doing some online courses to get some of these.
Thanks much!

Hey osagarese, I didnt get accepted yet, I only applied for the day programs in selden and brentwood. I guess you applie for the spring night program? What were grades in the prereqs if you dont mind me asking?
I applied for the day programs because I figured there would be more young people with lower grades applying and even though I got A's in both ENG and PSYCH, I only have B+'s in AP1 and AP2. Plus I want this done in 2 years and not 3. I'm hoping those grades are enough to get me in.
