Hello world.
I was taking pre-pharmacy classes to go to Pharmacy school but after working at a retail pharmacy for 2 and 1/2 years and also the hospital pharmacy for 1 and 1/2 years. It turned out to be not everything I was expecting that I wanted so I decided to change my major towards nursing! Im starting nursing school in 2 weeks and could not be happier with my decision.
What I was wondering is if there is anyone else out there that also changed from pre-pharm to nursing.
Or
If anyone has worked in a pharmacy before nursing school and if so, did the drug knowledge help in a big way?
Thanks
Glad to see others here in the same boat. Pharmacy and Nursing both have their pros and cons. Sure pharmacists make more than RN's, but Pharm D is an advanced degree. You can get an advanced degree in the nursing field and make around the same range if your concerned about the salary gap. Though it shouldn't be your main reason for choosing one career over another. I read not to long ago that quality of life doesn't really increase once your at the 70,000 or above. Don't quote me exactly on that but that was the gist I got from reading the article, who knows how they came up with the info. It's all about what you want to do and what you think will give you a better career depending on your determining factors. I'm choosing the nursing route over pharmacy. I think I'll be happier and enjoy it more in the long run. Though pharmacy is great for those who can't deal with the aspects of nursing. Pharmacy, Medical, Nursing school etc, is all difficult they may not all be on the same level of difficulty but it all depends how much effort you're willing to put in and how bad you want it.

I am also a pharmacy technician and current nursing student. Im due to graduate from nursing school in Dec. 2011 and I found my med knowledge extremely helpful during my first two semesters of nursing school. I think that you have chosen a great career. I too wanted to go to pharmacy school but changed my mind because I wanted a career where I was in a more direct patient care role. Good Luck to you!!!
