Pre-Pharmacology Exam at ACC

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone, I'm new to allnurses, found this website while browsing the net. In which I'm glad I did since I am trying to complete my prerequisites for the LVN program.

First off, Happy Mother's Day to all of you, whether your first time mom's, mom's to many or mommies to be!

I am currently attending ACC in Austin TX and was wondering about the Pharm course. I did not know you had to take Anatomy and Physiology; two separate courses here at ACC to even be able to register for the course. Although I was told about the Pre-Pharmacology exam and was wondering if anyone had to go that route...if so what material did you use to prep for the exam?

Would appreciate any and all replies. :)

Thanks!

Hi cutiepatootie512!

I am also taking pre-reqs at ACC in Austin. Since it has been a while since you posted, you may have found this out already, but you do not have to take Anatomy and Physiology....Only Anatomy and college level Math. For example, I am taking Pharmacology right now in the summer session and my teacher asked us to show proof on the first day that we had taken Human Anatomy and College Level Math or else she would drop us from the class.

I'm not sure about the Pre-Pharmacology test, I haven't heard anything about that, but it would probably just be a basic Math assessment test.

Now, I know that you DO have to take an assessment test before you sign up for Physiology (basic chemistry stuff), but like I said, you DO NOT have to take it before Pharmacology.

So my advice, if you haven't signed up for summer classes is to plan on taking Human Anatomy (I would recommend John Norris) in the fall and then Physiology and Pharmacology in the spring. I'm not sure if you have to take Microbiology. I'm going for the RN and I have to take micro :)

Good luck to you! Let me know what u decide!

Take care

SincereSmile,

Thank you so much for your reply! I hadn't got any replies on my post and needed to register. So I figured why not e-mail my future prof and ask him. He assured me since I had taken Intro to A&P I was good to go :D, but thank you for your response nonetheless!

Hi there Sincere Smile!

Will you be taking HPRS 2300 Pharmacology for Health Professions? The reason why I ask is because I have taken Pharmacology (HPRS 2300) during the Spring Semester and our instructor made sure that we had the pre-reqs completed (Human Anatomy and College Level Math) or else we would be dropped. There was a student that only took Intro to A&P and our instructor stated that is NOT the same as Human Anatomy and dropped her from the class. The course schedule on ACC states that the pre-req for HPRS 2300 is Human Anatomy OR Human Physiology OR A&P I (if the course is split into A&P I and A&P II) AND a College Level Math course. And of course you can take the Pre-Pharmaocology assessment test to bypass the pre-reqs

I just wanted you to know so you don't run into any problems.

Best of luck!

Opps... sorry, the previous message was for cutiepatootie512.

I didn't mean for that message to be discouraging in any way....I just wanted to lay out the info based on my experience and what is posted on ACC's website so you don't run into any trouble regarding pre-reqs for pharm.

Hello Annbananz,

I am shocked to hear that your prof dropped a student. According to ACC's course catalog, you can take the pharm course if you have taken into to A&P.

(Prerequisites: Human Anatomy (BIOL 2304/2101) OR Human Physiology (BIOL 2305/2102) OR Anatomy & Physiology (BIOL 2404) (4 hours) with a grade of C or better OR pass a departmental assessment exam AND passed math assessment (Compass 39 or higher) OR passed TASP math (230 or higher) OR passed THEA math (230 or higher) OR passed a math course above MATD 0330 with a grade of C or better. Bring proof of prerequisites to orientation or first class meeting (grade report, transcripts, and math scores). Exempt students of TSI, need proof of a math course or passed the ACC Math Assessment. ( ) Course Type: W)

Intro to A&P is course BIOL 2404. My instructor even pointed that out to me when I had emailed him prior to registering for his class.

I would suggest that you point this out to your instructor, maybe she is unaware of this and can enroll the student she had dropped back into her course.
