Wait-listed...what to do about student loans?

  1. So, here's the story. I am 10 out of 24 on a wait list for a 2nd degree program. I used up my federal financial aid during my undergrad, and will have to take out some private student loans to pay for the program (which I know is not ideal, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do). I could possibly be on the wait list until December and the program begins right after New Years Day. I want to avoid scrambling for student loans at the last minute, so is there anyway to get pre-approved for a student loan like you can with a house or a car? If anyone else has been in a similar situation, any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated! Any positive thoughts or encouragement would also be wonderful right now lol.

You only need 6 units to be able to apply for a Federal loan. While you are on the waiting list can you take 6 units and apply for then? You might have to pay for the 6 units but it should be pretty cheap.

Maybe take a career class online, a PE class...take a basic math class to brush up on the TEASE?

    Just a thought.

I'm in the same boat, I'm going to wait a few weeks until its a bit close to fall and I'll go in and talk to financial aid

With most private loans, honestly they approve you in like a day and will often have the check mailed out to your school in a few days. As far as pre approval with private loans- if you get approved now, unless your credit score takes a drastic hit or your financial situation changes between now and then, you'll be fine.
