Second Degree Programs in Central Ohio
Haha I am #10 on the wait list. I am hoping they go through at least half their waitlist this year. Guess I just have to wait and see. Do you know how they will let us know if a space opens up? Do you think it would be via e-mail or snail mail?

Wait-listed...what to do about student loans?
So, here's the story. I am 10 out of 24 on a wait list for a 2nd degree program. I used up my federal financial aid during my undergrad, and will have to take out some private student loans to pay for the program (which I know is not ideal, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do). I could possibly be on the wait list until December and the program begins right after New Years Day. I want to avoid scrambling for student loans at the last minute, so is there anyway to get pre-approved for a student loan like you can with a house or a car? If anyone else has been in a similar situation, any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated! :) Any positive thoughts or encouragement would also be wonderful right now lol.

Second Degree Programs in Central Ohio
Hi there! Thanks for responding! When I had my interview they said they would be interviewing about 120-130 people and would accept 64 and then another 20 or so would be wait-listed. I actually have 4 pre-reqs left; 2 I am taking now and 2 in the fall, so I'm not sure if that will count against me. 100+ hours of ER experience is great and I'm sure that it can only help you. :) I feel your pain when it comes to the wait---I applied in February and have been anxious ever since! Where are you taking your pre-reqs? I took organic/biochemistry at Columbus State and it was pretty easy (lots of extra credit points available), so I would recommend taking it there.

Why many new grads don't find jobs....
I have the same issue. I would love to work as a CNA/PCA, but it would mean cutting my current pay almost in half. Since my living expenses are not being subsidized by my parents/huband etc, I simply cannot afford to live on that paycheck. I have been trying to find volunteer opportunities in the local hospitals, but even those are difficult to obtain if you don't know someone.

OMG Final Grades are in!!!!
Congrats! Now hopefully you can relax a little. :)

Still waiting!
I am still waiting to hear if I got into an accelerated BSN program as well----but I won't find out until July or August. I applied in February so the wait is really starting to get to me!

2.0 GPA...help!
The good news is, since you only have 11 credit hours, you still have a chance to get your GPA up! I would make sure you get As in your pre-reqs, and if you have time, squeeze in some fluff courses you know you can easily get an A in.

raising a low GPA from a previous degree
I understand how you feel. It is really difficult to raise your GPA when you already have 150+ credit hours from a previous degree. My suggestion is to take your time with your pre-reqs and try to get As in as many of them as possible.

Nursing...Decisions, Decisions
I would go for your RN. As far as ADN vs BSN, I guess it would depend on the area and what the hospitals are looking for. I know here, the hospitals will really only hire RNs with BSNs.

Second Degree Accelerated BSN - Low Undergrad GPA
I know you posted this a few weeks ago, but I just had to say your post makes me feel so much better. I have a BA and graduated with a GPA of 3.3. At the time, I thought that was pretty good. I applied to a 2nd degree accelerated program in February and won't hear back until July or August. I have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs, so initially, I thought I would have no trouble getting accepted. Now I keep reading all these posts from people with much higher GPAs who were not accepted, and I was starting to lose hope. Your post reminds me that nursing schools will look at more than just gpa before making a decision. Thanks again for the words of encouragement!

What is your back up plan, what should I do?
I am in kind of the same boat, I applied for a 2nd degree accelerated program in February, but I won't find out if I get in until July or August (ugh!). I didn't apply to any other schools because (at the time) I thought I would have no trouble getting in. Since then, I have been reading so many horror stories of people who had 3.9 gpas and still didn't get accepted! Now I am trying to figure out a back up plan...there are other schools in the area, but they are all 4 year programs.

Second Degree Programs in Central Ohio
Hi all, I recently applied to Mt. Carmel's 2nd Degree Accelerated Program. I have had my heart set on going there for a few years now, but now I realize my GPA may not be strong enough. Does anyone have any idea of what Mt. Carmel is looking for in terms of GPA or other requirements? I am trying to decide if I should apply to another school in the event I am not admitted. Does anyone have any info about Capital's 2nd degree program? I haven't been able to find much online, so any info would be really helpful. Thanks all :).
