Received my 3rd rejection today.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This morning I woke up and to find that I had an email from my university's college of nursing. I've been so excited for this email because I was sure I was going to get in this time. I've been rejected from the college of nursing twice before, and since I've already met all the prerequisites, I've been taking upper level science courses towards a Human Biology degree. I've worked really hard and got a 4.0 in Orgo 1 and 2, plus the lab (not required for nursing). I've 4.0 a 400 level biochemistry, and pharmacology. This raised my GPA to a 3.6. At the same time I got a job working as a ED Scribe, and continued to volunteer tutoring at risk children in literacy. I got two strong letters of recommendation, one from a former CNA instructor, and another from a supervisor when I volunteered in the ED. I've worked so hard and put so much time into getting accepted into this damn nursing program. I really thought I would get in this time.

So when I saw the email, I excitedly skimmed to the part "however, you have not been selected for admission". It didn't hit me until I called my mom to tell her the news. During the call I couldn't speak, and I had to hang up so she wouldn't know that I was crying. I had remained positive after my 2 previous failed attempts; however this time, I can't deny the sadness and anger I feel. I skipped all my classes today and sat in my bed trying to convince myself that everything will be okay, that I can finish up my Human Biology degree and apply into Med, Dentistry, or Pharmacology. The problem is, I can't lie to myself and deny the truth, that all I ever wanted was to be a nurse. I apologize for this lengthy rant, I just needed some place to get my thoughts down. I can't speak to anyone about this because it gets difficult to hold back the tears.

Follow your dreams!! If it makes you feel s little bit better, you're not alone. I attempted applying to an accelerated Rn program at a university where they assessed my grades, then interviewed thereafter. I am already an LPN competing with interviewees who have no nursing experience, yet they denied me 3 times! At the beginning I took it hard, then eventually became confident on my 3rd try but still failed. Then One week ago I got offered a seat in a local college! Nursing is worth the hard work, someone out there will notice you! Just be patient and apply to many schools!! Good luck:)

Hi [COLOR=#003366]iono101 I'm sorry about what's going on right now :(

But iono101 don't give up on your dream! Just keep trying, it will work out in the end.

I have a few suggestions that may help that you could think about:

*Finish your degree and get into an accelerated program for those who already have degrees.

*Keep applying to more and more schools! I've applied to 6 accelerated programs and got rejected by 2, accepted to 2, interview at 1 very soon, and the other one is processing the apps. My plan was to apply to 14 programs but decided on 6 first and that I'd apply to more if no one accepted me. My ending gpa from my first bachelors is very low and new that'd be a problem getting in somewhere.

*Move somewhere else where it is less competitive. Think of it as an adventure if you do!

*Do the ADN program and later get into the RN-BSN program, which was my last option if no one accepted me. Now that I think about though, I'd kept trying to get into a 2nd degree nursing program.

I personally think (totally my opinion! and not forcing it on you) that you should finish the degree and apply to a bunch of accelerated programs, or keep applying to a bunch of nursing programs. Either way keep trying so that in the end you will achieve your dream of being a nurse :snurse:

I believe in you!!

If you’re close to completing a degree in Biology, I would complete the degree and consider applying to Accelerated BSN programs. These are programs designed for students who already hold a Bachelor’s degree in a different area. Since your degree is in biology, I will venture to say you have all of the necessary pre-req courses out of the way. The GPA is good. Conduct an internet search for the ABSN programs and see what’s out there.

There are so many entry points to becoming a nurse. Research your options. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the many options available.

Good luck!

Do NOT stop trying! I'm applying to schools right now and I have my preferred one of course and I know how competitive it can be. I haven't made it yet but being a nurse is all I ever wanted to do as well and I have a bachelors in psychology already too. I do not want to give up on my dream because someone doesn't want to give me a chance at one school. You shouldn't either!!!

My friends have graduated nursing school already and I feel like crap and too old for this sometimes. I'm also a mother of 2 young girls and I'm married to a firefighter who's hardly ever home cause he's always at work. I have to study late at night for my Teas exam and now I guess the HESI. Maybe God knows this isn't the school for you. And if you were to get in you'd see why. Apply to other schools and see what happens! Your gpa is super competitive! You do not give up, you just find a new way of making your dream come true and achieving your goals.
