NET question

Hi! I am taking the NET in a few days and I am wondering what will be on the english part of the exam. Will it be writing an essay or answering questions and if it is answering questions are they pretty general?

The english part consists of reading small paragraphs and then answering a certain question about them, such as "what is the main idea" or "what can you infer from this". It's not as easy as it sounds. Many people worry about the math portion only to find they did well at that and had trouble with the english portion.

If you have time, I would get the NET study guide by Michael Frost. Many libraries have it, but chances are it will be out already. Barnes and Noble and Borders are usually sold out as well. I would buy direct from the makers of the NET exam at: http://www.eriworld.com.

I was an A student in English through out high school and a D student in math so I concentrated on the math part. BIG MISTAKE!! I thought the Enlish part was really hard. It's not "English" it is English comprehension. You must read a story and answer a bunch of questions about it, it sounds easy but I found it very difficult. Also, it is timed. We had a total of 30 mintues. I still had 7 pages left when the proctor said "5 minutes left"!! I did pass, but it was tough!! I would definatley suggest getting the NET study guide. It shows you exactely what the format of the questions are and gives you a feel of what the real test is like. Good Luck!!

I would definitely get the study guide as well! I have always been a straight A English student, and yet I had a hard time with the English part of the test. It is a critical thinking test and the answers aren't as obvious as one might think. The study guide helps because it has mock tests modeled after the test and gives you a pretty accurate view of how you will do.

I just got the NET study guide in the mail from eriworld and i am finding the tips for reading comprehension very useful.Our test will also be timed and i think that they only allow 30 mins for the reading part so im pretty scared about that part.Thanks for all the input!
