And now we wait!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Well, after a year of studying my backside off and accomplishing a 4.0 GPA, I have finally applied for nursing school. This is my dream, and I have waited a long time to finally have the privilege of following my dream. I am an older student and am excited & scared all at the same time. The letters go out mid October and I am not sure my heart is going to hold up for that long.:clown: I hope I am accepted. Anyone one else out there chewing their fingernails along with me? Chime in, maybe we can all keep each other company.

Does anyone have any statistics or war stories on just how long a pre-nursing student can wait to get into nursing school? I have a B.A. and can probably transfer a bunch of pre-req credits.

But, I am debating whether or not its worth it if I'm going to be put on a waiting list forever. Is it months, years? :uhoh21: The big issue is, I need to work!

Also, has anyone gotten work in another healthcare field (to pay the bills) while waiting to get into nursing school?

Any information would be very much appreciated!

i'm a senior nursing student of an adn program and i can say it depends on the school as to how long you wait. i was originally on a list at one school that wanted me to wait 2 1/2 yrs. & as i got closer to getting my pre-reqs done i heard of another school w/ a shorter wait. so, i transfered to the other school and got in a year earlier, even though i had to do 2 extra classes for their program.

as to your other question.... some people in my class work as a cna, but they find it difficult to find time to study. the program is very difficult (i had a 3.8 GPA going in & every semester since i've started the program it has fallen), but once again it depends on the program. i've heard SOME people on these boards say "i didn't think nursing school was that hard"....and all i can say to that is they must not have been in a very demanding program, because we've already lost 1/2 of our original class from either dropping out or failing (about 20 people). if it's what you really, really want, then you CAN do it though!

i will add that before i started the program i didn't have one grey hair, wrinkle or bag under my eye, but now it's a whole different story! i look like i've aged 10 yrs. in 14 mos.!

Thanks for that.

I have to take a bunch of pre-reqs, so perhaps that will take up most of my time on the waiting list! And, congrats to you for making it thus far. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel now!

I'm also waiting on the letter for Fall 07, or Spring 07. Its my first choice school, with great NCLEX rates, and no school/clinicals in the summer. The school has not filled the amount for Spring yet so admissions said if everything is good they will bump me up for Spring. I sent my packet off last week just need to do the criminal background check and test, and then will get an answer 4 weeks after that clears so I will know by beginning of december. I'd rather go in Fall because if I get the Spring that gives me one month to get ready instead of starting in August which I kind of wanted. Oh well, I just want to get accepted period I'll figure out which semester after the acceptance. Best of luck to all.

I'm waiting too. We had a 6 week application period and today was the last day! I turned mine in on the first day so I've been waiting for 6 weeks. Results should be posted in mid-November so I'm more than halfway there. I have another 4 weeks to wait...I hate waiting but I have a friend who still has 2 pre-reqs left and she's envious of me so I guess it's not so bad...
