Pre-nursing student wants to volunteer.......

Good Morning!

I am a pre-nursing student who recieved my letter of acceptance and am waiting up to a year and a half to start. I would love to do some volunteering abroad while I wait. My school is very small and does not offer anything along those lines. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Also, I am a non traditional student, as I am 29 years old. I am saying this becasue some volunteering I found cut off at age 26. Thank you very much! and Merry Christmas!

I'm not sure what type of volunteering you have in mind. Why not look into volunteering at your local hospital, especially if you might be doing clinicals there in the future? It looks good on a resume, and showing your face around prospective employers can't hurt either!

I have emailed the hospital in my area and am hoping to volunteer with them soon. I was looking for something in the medical field but also would mind doing a little traveling on my spring break. So I figured why not combine travel and volunteering. I have seen many places that do this but charge a fortune, I am trying to find something affordable but also that will allow me to help. Thank you for your help!

I know exactly how you feel. I am 27 years old and waiting to get into a program that doesn't start until Autumn '11. I am working full time at a nursing home (36 hrs/wk), volunteering part time at a hospital (5 hrs/wk), and taking 10 credit hours this quarter at school. Volunteering is an awesome experience! It can be a humbling experience as well. I have heard that volunteering can possibly lead to more opportunities, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Veteran's Hospitals could always use about 100 extra hands, and that is on good days. I volunteer at my local Veteran's hospital and it is very rewarding to give back to my brothers and sister. I am a Vet too :D
