Hi! Thank you for taking time to read my thread. I begin taking my pre-req's for the RN program Aug. 27th. I'm so excited. I currently work as a bartender and well feel that I could be gaining better experience in a hospital/healthcare setting. I've searched local hospital job websites and continue to see that I'm not yet qualified to for any technical work. Are there any areas that would help me gain this experience while I'm a student?

After you do a semester or two of clinicals, many hospitals will hire you as a patient care assistant (PCA) or as a nurses aid. If call the HR department at the hospitals in your area, they can give you the details, but basically, even though you won't be certified, you will have the clinical expereince to still get hired, and be earning a little money and getting experience (resume builder). Hope this helps. Oh, and good luck with your new program.

Some hospitals offer nurse extern positions after you have completed your first year of nursing school. I found a local hospital offerred this position and I worked one summer in between the 1st and 2nd year of my ADN program. You do basically the same thing as a patient care tech, but get paid better and the hospital is banking on the fact you might work for them after you finish your degree. I don't know what part of FL you live in, but check into that once you start your program.

Most nursing homes in my area will do free CNA training and you pay for the exam and they reimburse you after 2 months of employment, I believe it's aroun 130$ maybe a tad less, for me it would have been 155$ since I haven't been a FL resident for 5 yrs

That is interesting. Do you know of any Nursing homes in Broward County that may be offering that training?
