I am in my second yr in college and i am majoring in nursing. My first yr in college i was playing around and wasn't studying the way i should so i got put on academic probation because my gpa had dropped bad but this i hve been bac on track since the summer. The point i was trying to get was my nursing adviser told me to apply to the program in january so i can start next fall but i am afraid because i don't think my gpa will be high enough. So i was wondering if i should wait till jan 11 to apply(you only get one time to apply throughout the yr at my school)and my gpa is high enough or should i jus transfer to a community college after next semster since i will have a&p1 and most of my pre-reqs done? I really want to become a nurse. I jus made a mistake and messed up my first yr. So plz give me your advice on what you think

ashheart08,
if you will allow me a few moments to explain myself, i will tell you why it may not be a good idea to transfer to a community college in order to pursue your dreams.
first, i will set up an example problem illustrating gpa calculations. let’s assume you took the four classes below and earned the shown gpa for the semester:
eng 101 c
math111 f
comm101 f
anp 1 d
total gpa: 0.5625
from reading the boards, i notice many folks suggest transferring schools to start over, but the truth is, you will have to submit your transcripts from all previously attended schools including the one you did not perform so well at. so, all of your grades will be added together for a final gpa. now, let’s suppose you decided to attend the community college for one year and earned the following grades:
eng 101 a
math 122 a
comm 201 a
anp 1 b
anp 2 a
mico b
bio 101 b
chem 101 a
total gpa: 3.625
when applying to nursing school, your combined gpa is 2.666
you already have a plan in place. i wouldn’t make any changes to your plan. the quickest, cheapest, and most time efficient way to boost your gpa is by repeating courses you didn’t do so well in. for you, it may only take you one semester to repeat those courses. just imagine in the first example you retook your courses and earned two a’s and 2 b’s. your nursing gpa would then be a 3.5!
i think repeating the courses are beneficial for you in two ways. first, of course it will boost your gpa for entrance into the nursing program. but also, it shows that although your first attempt wasn’t successful, you didn’t give up. you retook the courses and was successful the second time around.
regardless of what you decided, good luck to you and don’t allow one academic year to discourage you from pursuing your dreams!

In many cases, community colleges have waiting lists. So, by the time you get into a community college you'll probably be ready to apply at the school you're already attending. I agree with the previous poster, not only will your credits transfer but your GPA will transfer as well. I would just stay where you are! Good luck!
