Pre-Nursing looking at Hospital Jobs

Published

Hello All,

I am looking at some Hospital Jobs to start getting use to the atmosphere and for flexible hours because I want to enter into the Nursing Program in Passaic County Community College. I just applied for Staff Unit Secretary - Nursing Department. I choose the graveyard shift as I am hoping I can go to school in the afternoon and possibly do some homework or studying while at work. Do you think this is a good idea or even feasible? Let me add I am an early riser and a night owl I only require about 5 hours sleep and I am fine throughout the day :D

My main question though is more so about the pay. What do you think a Staff Secretary that works from 11pm till 7am would usually make around I am hoping it will cover my current salary I am making 42,000 a yr. I can't afford to make less because of financial reasons, but I am trying my best to go get back into school and finish up. THanks a BUNCH!!:p

Did you get the job? How is it all working out?

no unfortunately i never got a call back from the job, but it will work out. I am going to school at Bergen Community College instead (evening) as a part time and have to take a few science courses and hopefully in October I will be able to pass the entrance exam. And if all goes well I hope then I'll be able to find something (internship or externship wise..):icon_roll

Cool! Well, I wish you good luck! I worked as a Unit Secretary at University Hospital 2002-2003. I wanted to go to nursing school then..but no..I just HAD to work in Corporate America first..well, now that I'm here..I'm bored! And FINALLY going back to school!

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Essex County College starting next semester (evening classes) and will hopefully start the nursing program next Fall. I already have my BA in a non-nursing field. Instead of doing an accelerated BSN program (because I NEED to work)..I'm going to get my ASN.

So, keep me posted and I'll do the same for you! :nuke:

Yea Sure that sounds fun!! WE can cheer each other on!! You can email me from time to time :D Good luck with your schooling!! I hear you about getting out and working first I made the same choice and I figured let me get my ASN as well and once in the nursing field I can always choose to continue my education YIPPIE!
