PPTS, SCSIT sign agreement for nursing ladderization program

Published

I would like to ask your views about this:

THE Philippine Paramedical and Technical School (PPTS) and Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) recently signed a memorandum of agreement to make official the ladderization of the PPTS Practical Nursing (PN) and Applied Science in Nursing (ASN-RN) programs under TESDA to the SCSIT B.S. Nursing course under CHED.

Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, under Exec. Order 358, had earlier ordered the ladderization of all TESDA programs to CHED in order to allow more Filipino students to make full use of TESDA Technical programs as stepping stones to higher education.

A major factor in the successful MOA signing is the CHED approval and authorization of the ladderized nursing curriculum of SCSIT, which is one of only two approved ladderized nursing programs among the universities in Cebu.

With this official agreement, only PPTS students now have the unique opportunity to proceed to B.S. Nursing at SCSIT at any time after their PN or ASN-RN graduation with their credentials fully credited towards a BSN degree.

philippine nurses association inc. recognized standard of education is bachelor's degree that leads to licensure upon nle passage,

if your country does not license practical nurses, and the bsn is recognized minimal standard for professional registered nursing, nursing jobs not available for nurses already graduated with a bsn and passed nle..... why would you think that a practical nursing degree with ladder to an associate degree is going to help you when not able to get licensed, find work as a nurse nor be useful for immigration???

The ADN is not recognized by the Philippine government for licensure, so it is not going to be accepted by other countries as well. Even the US is requiring the local license for several states at this time and without it being able to be written, then there is no way to get licensed in the US.

The US also has a retrogression in place and the expected wait for a green card is going to be more than five years. Without being able to get licensed there, how are you going to get work experience as an RN? Other countries are not accepting that training at all as well, so that leaves one in a real mess. We are expecting the US to require work experience as the other countries are doing and if you are unable to get that, then most employers are not even going to look at your application.

Your president can sign all of the documents that she wants, but it still does not open those grads to being able to write the NLE since your government does not recognize the training for licensure there in the first place. Same way that Brion called on all that flunked the NLE to be made Practical Nurses so that they could get jobs in other countries. But he also fails to understand that no other country accepts the training of the practical nurse for immigration purposes as no country has a shortage in this area as a start.
