Hi,
I was stationed in Port Hueneme, Ca (by ventura) for a couple of years w/ the navy. I know you all get paid more money out there but nonetheless the prices for living in cali are outrageous. How do ppl even afford to buy a decent home in a decent area in socal?
Getting a good, professional roommate might dramatically reduce the amount of money you will have to spend on housing.thanks everyone! I still have a while til I graduate & would LOVE LOVE LOVE to move back to cali. that would be great if it did happen. the only things that leave me a bit apprehensive are the prices of living & the school systems. I heard they're quite bad. anyhow, only time will tell!
Move to a college town in the L.A. area such as Northridge (home to the California State Univ. at Northridge), Long Beach (Cal. State Univ. at Long Beach), Pomona (California Polytechnic Univ. at Pomona), Westwood (UCLA), Burbank (Woodbury University), or Carson (Cal. State Univ. at Dominguez Hills). Areas in close proximity to universities will have plenty of young adult college students in need of roommates. How would you go about getting a good professional roommate? www.roommates.com?
How would you go about meeting someone though? I'm sure I'll be busy with work and won't have a lot of time to do much else. Do you think myspace would be a good way to maybe meet potential roommates?
I recommend www.craigslist.com for roomates. I have found apts and roomates that way.
As for CA, well, it's beautiful, but not forever. I want a yard and I don't want to spend my life in the car getting to work, you know?
Good Luck to you
I just moved to Texas from Bakersfield in November 2005 after living there for 2 years. The cost of living has increased by 40 percent in the past year. Many people are moving to Bakersfield since it was the last affordable city in California. I sold my Bakersfield house last year and bought a new one for cash in Fort Worth, TX with the profit.Does anyone know what it's like renting/buying in Bakersfield now, or Fresno? Thinking about moving to an affordable location in Cali in the next year . . . from Texas.

It's all about priorities. I was willing to give up homeownership in the Midwest for the sunshine.
