Postpone nclex?

Published

Im new to allnurses.com so I apologize if Im not posting in the right area...I need some advice. I just graduated nursing school (dec.10) and I have been trying to study as much as possible (going for 100 questions a day) but my dad has cancer and hes been really sick so Ive been up at the hospital all the time (with my laptop and nclex cds) and studying up there too...Also, my fiance of 3years and 8mon and I just broke up..so a lot of stuff is going on...I want more than anything in this world to be a nurse- I am a cancer survivor so I cannot wait to help patients that are going through it...I want it so badly and I put everything I had into nursing school but now Im afraid because of what is happening with my dad and my fiance that I may become distracted. Im having a hard time studying...but at the same time I want to take it and pass it more than anything...Should I postpone it or just try my best to study and go in friday and try it? I believe if I can clear my head I can do it..its just the clearing my head im worried about. Another reason that I want to do it NOW is because my dad wants me to be a nurse so bad and I want to pass it in time for him to KNOW that I passed it. I would hate for something to happen to him first because I know how proud he will be of me when I pass.

Any advice?

Just an update....My computer shut off at 75 questions!! I was so freaked out! I almost cried when it shut off. Im not saying it was easy at all but it was easier than I expected. I felt like I knew the answers!! Yay! I cant wait for the results to come in!!

I think you should take it, you never know you could pass even with all thats going on. I will pray for yuor situation and your father. If you dont pass you can retake it atleast you will know what your up against

Im sorry for not posting it sooner!!! Its been crazy around here--YES!! I passed!!! Im so excited!!! I feel like a huge weight is lifted and I can deal with other things...The only bad thing is that there is hardly anyone where I live hiring and if they are- they are not hiring new grads. Im just so happy I passed though!! :)Thanks again everyone for your advice!!

Congratulations!

I will agree the economy is incredibly rough right now. So few jobs out there. I would recommend starting the job hunt HARD and be willing to take just about anything. Good luck to you and your family.
