Possible Relocation to Nashville Area

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hello!

My fiancé is applying to a few grad schools around the US and there is a possibility we will be relocating to Nashville this Fall. Is it uncommon to be able to land a job at one of the area hospitals without living in TN (phone interview, Skype, etc)? We are moving from MA and I have 4 years of experience, mostly in acute care (medical-surgical, telemetry, stepdown).

Are there any hospitals that anyone recommends in particular (pay, ratios, etc.)? Also if anyone has any recommendations on best areas to live, that would be helpful.

Thank you!

Hi!

I am in Chicago and thinking about relocating to Nashville in the Fall. I previously lived in Nashville about 6 years ago. Currently, I have 3 years of RN experience on a med-surg renal floor. I have been on 4 interviews already in Nashville and I have to say that I am disappointed in the pay. For a RN with 3 years of experience, I was told $26 a hour at St. Thomas, $25.25 with Hendersonville, and $24 at Vanderbilt. On top of that, the nurse patient ratios are 1:6 and some floors don't have a CNA for help. I currently make $15 more than I was offered as a RN in Chicago, plus our staffing ratios are usually 1:4 w/ techs. Sometimes 1:5 but this rare. The plus side of TN, however, is no state tax and many of the RN offers stated that I did not have to work every other weekend like I do now.

Anybody else have different salary quotes?

Thanks for your reply, DynamicPhD! Were you able to do Skype/phone interviews? I have almost 4 years of experience, so pay will be same. It’s crazy coming from Boston, huge paycut. The ratios also seem high as well, thanks for telling me that! Good luck to you ?
