Possible nursing career path

Published

i know this is a little premature but i was just wondering if anyone has some idea of the nursing field they would like to pursue and why they chose that field? :redbeathe :nurse:

After completing my second clinical rounds, I know that bedside nursing is not my ideal pathway. I love the critical care field because it is so challenging and rewarding. My current track is one that leads me to become a nurse anesthetist but I have always wanted to work delivering babies. So as you can see, I myself am undecided and I thought it would be nice to see if anyone else feels the same.

I thought i was set on what I wanted to do, but that is changing every clinical. I got an opportunity to spend a day with Endo and Cath lab last semester, which got me thinking about possibility of being an OR nurse (maybe a future RNFA?). However, I'll be doing my OB/GYN and Peds rotation in 2 weeks so I'm open to see where that goes. I want my clinical experiences to guide me.

critical care is still bedside nursing.

im still undecided as well.. i love ICU, i also am very interested in Peds.. im thinking PICU would be a good combination. I've also thought about PACU, psych, or working in a drug rehab as well... who knows where ill end up, still have a lot of experiences to go through. unlike about 50% of my class, i am not interested in L&D.

Let me clarify a bit... Bedside nursing involves too much patient interaction for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I love caring for people but I prefer to care for people with the least amount of interaction, mainly because I am too emotional to handle that kind of involvement. While there is a great deal of sadness and patient interaction in critical nursing, the amount of time spent with each patient is less when compared to bedside nursing, and critical care nursing is a very rewarding and challenging field. Like I said in my original posts, my current track is nurse anesthetist because it matches my interest and personality. That is what is so great about this profession, there are so many avenues available.

I saw quite a bit of Endo procedures last semester, which I found very interesting. That was one of my favorite departments to visit but I don't think I can watch colonoscopies for the rest of my career. lol. I cant wait to begin my OB/PEDS rotation in the spring. If you don't mind me asking, what program are you in?

I would really love to be a WOCN eventually, although I think that I would also enjoy ER or ICU nursing (which, I believe, can be hard areas to get into). I was an EMT and really enjoyed the fast pace. My life growing up was very chaotic, so I almost feel normal when there is chaos and high stress! :)

Before I had my first son, I wanted to be a midwife. After complications during labor (I had an adverse reaction to Cervadil) and then having an emergency lady partsl delivery r/t shoulder dystocia I decided that I didn't want to deliver babies!!

I have only finished one semester of an ADN program, so I may want something completely different by the time I am done.

I pretty much went into it knowing I wanted to work in a field where I'd only see the same patient for a fairly brief period then be done with them.

It's an accelerated BSN program.
