Possible Jobs for new grad with probation?

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hello everyone,

I have been in recovery for almost six years. I went to school to obtain my registered nursing license and had some charges that were expunged and 2 misdemeanor charges that were related to a DUI when I applied for my initial license. I also reported that I had been treated within the past five years for substance abuse. The Georgia Board of Nursing required me to get a mental and physical evaluation which included a blood test, urine, hair follicle. In return a physician recommended that I went to outpatient for six weeks. I finally completed the outpatient program and passed each and every drug screen just to get slapped with a consent agreement for my license. This process has really been a struggle and almost made me want to just give up The consent holds no restrictions, except for quarterly reports. Does anyone know of possible jobs as a new graduate nurse that I may be able to obtain while stuck on probation?

Long term care, home health are both areas where I was able to get employed with a felony record and active probation. I always used to joke that the thing I looked for most in an employer was desperation. I was always very upfront about my issues. I think it was quite obvious I'd moved past them as well. After getting my foot in the door things really took off and many opportunities opened up for me. Something will give, hang in there and good luck.

Thank you so much for your input and hope! I don't think my license allows me to practice home health care, hospice, or travel nursing is pretty much the only thing... I will definitely look into long term care facilities though. I also had three interviews with Fresenius because I heard it was easy with dialysis centers. I disclosed my misdemeanors and license status to them. However, when I did the background check, it was flagged with HR and I have an appointment to "review my background check" tomorrow so I am not getting my hopes up...

I know a recent new grad on probation who got a job for an adult day care center. Also, I’m pretty sure DaVita would hire you. They hire new grads and diversion/probation nurses so maybe they’d go for both. I worked there and I hated it. Seems they will hire anybody. Also, if you are willing to relocate, rural hospitals would likely hire you. I knew a new grad on probation for an old dui who got work at the hospital in Joshua Tree on med surg and then moved into the ER.
