Portland Community College 2021/2022

Hi

I didn’t see a thread for PCC so I want to start one. Maybe we can all stay in contact and updated. I applied to OHSU and I didn’t get in, waiting in Linfield and Concordia. Where had everyone else applied?

Emails have been sent. Good luck! I didn’t make it. ?

so close.

I'm sorry ? Such a bummer, but don't give up hope!

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll do great ? I took the exam last year and felt that they gave plenty of time to do it. Plus I love that you don't have to do it on a specific day, at a specific time like MHCC did last year.

Is there a way to “study” to do well on the exam?

Good luck to everyone who made to phase ll. I didn’t make it. ?.  Still going to keep fighting. I’ll be a nurse one day?

Not that I've found, unfortunately ? That's the thing I find most frustrating about this test. PCC does have a few links with recommended reading, and Insight Assessments has a few (really bad imo) practice questions on their website, but I didn't find them helpful.

I tried doing other reading and practice tests surrounding critical thinking last year to prepare but I didn't have any luck finding much of anything tailored to health science reasoning. I am reading Peter Facione's Think Critically, which is mentioned on Insight Assessments' website. Mostly, it's not great, but it is helping me get in the habit of remembering to ask myself: What is this question *really* asking? I think that's the main takeaway for me, and the most relevant thing I can share in regards to the HSRT.

Sorry for being long-winded. The test will give you everything you need to know, so there's no real studying required ?

Bandera, yes, keep fighting! You'll get there, you have the right attitude ?

Honestly.. not really. They gave some info on the PCC nursing page but it isn’t that helpful. I guess you just have to know how to be a critical thinker naturally. I remember one of the questions last year was like this: Kelly came into urgent care with a fever and a runny nose. Does she

- A. Have the flu

- B. Probably have the flu

- C. Most likely has the flu

I didn't finish the test because I spent so much time on a single question. I took a bunch of “critical thinking” tests online and none of them were like the test. I saw someone comment with some useful info. I would look into that!

Sorry Bande, my phone autocorrected your name and I just realized. It won't let me edit to fix it ?

Congrats to everyone who made it to phase 2! I didn’t make it this year, but I’m hopeful for the next round.

Did anyone here apply to Clark or Warner Pacific? I haven’t seen many threads about those schools

Hi everyone. I applied to MHCC, CCC and Linfield. Anyone here knows which school is better? All I know is that Linfield is 2 year program while MHCC/CCC/PCC is 3 year program.

Hi guys, I had my mhcc essay today. Did anyone receive a email back saying that their essay was received? I put mine into a word document like it said and I attatched it to an email and just replied back from the prompt. I did not get anything saying recieved but I hope I turned it in correctly
