I wonder...is there a good specialty fit in the nursing profession for someone who has considerably more of a propensity toward the arts and language, who thinks more from the heart and navigates with their feelings and intuition? Say, someone with a Meyers-Briggs INFP personality?

Hmmm what about research nursing ?
Hmmm....very interesting! I looked at some job descriptions on CareerBuilder. I do like to do research and advocating, and I've played the liaison before in other jobs....hmm...thank you for bringing that one up twinner05, never would have thought of that!
No problem and good luck :)

I wouldn't think that art, feelings and emotions would really come into play in research.I am an INFP and I work on a mixed floor with physical rehab and palliative patients being a large part of the load. Our patients are not as acute as some floors and I can take time to do the little things for my patients that are important to me.
If you do a search on here there are threads about good areas for INFPs to work in.
That sounds like me, loriangel14. Did you have much trouble with the left-brained subjects in college? I did really well in psychology, and almost passed basic math class...failed it by 3%...no calculators.
I love taking care of people and to help bring about improvements; to be therapeutic. My favorite thing is to make people more comfortable and I seem to be good at calming them down. I do it all the time at the customer service call center at the hospital I work in. I was never real fond of the idea of acute care, but I did volunteer in the ER and loved it. --I wasn't responsible for much though!
Yes I did well in psych and sociology.Yes being therapeutic and nurturing and making people comfortable.I enjoy pain management and symptom management.I enjoy rehab and palliative care, both are journeys.Of course I have to harden myself to the ones that try to wheedle their way out of having to get up for exercises. Having to explain that rehab means you don't get to stay on bed in your gown all day takes practice.
There is an ideal area for everyone. Some thrive on a fast pace and a high turn over, some don't.Thank heavens there are many different personalities in nursing.
Thank you Loriangel! You have no idea how much that helps me. I don't feel like a freak anymore. I am so excited!
