Polk State January 2015 Admission

Published

Hi there :)

My name is Kelsey and I am new to the site! I thought I would start a thread about those of us who are applying to Polk State for January 2015 admission. I need some encouragement :) I'm nervous about applying...I have a 3.5 GPA and I've been scoring 85's on my TEAS practice test (still working on improving my score). I also have some general questions about the program..I know at HCC they have different cohort times...for example they have an evening and weekend option at certain campuses. Thanks in advance for any information you have that would help me out :)

Ok...so for some encouragement. I have a 3.57 GPA and an 84.7 on the TEAS and I got accepted into the Fall 2014 program that starts next week. You are in excellent shape (I was high on the acceptance list) as your scores and GPA are really good!!! First semester is at the Winter Haven campus and then Lakeland for 2nd and back and forth. We got a choice of when we wanted to take Pharmacology (am or pm) and then the Adult Health 1 class would be opposite that for Thursday. Adult Health is an 8-4 class on Tuesdays and Thursdays is 8-4 (see above about Pharm/AH1). You will have clinicals from 6:30am-3 pm generally; I chose Mondays at Winter Haven as it was more convenient for me timewise. t The other choices were Lakend Regional, Lake Wales, Bartow and Heart of Florida on Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays. You will have to put in 2 1/2 hours/week over and above class time in the Nursing Lab on campus and/or The AV Nusring Lab where there are recommended DVDs to watch, those hours are kept track of and they must be that, at a minimum. Regular scrubs in class any color or an approved (they sell them) T shirt. Clinical is black scrub pants and a Red Scrub top with the Polk County Nursing badge sewn on (available at a few unifrom shops near the school). Books are pricey for the first semester but I saved a lot buying from Amazon or you can rent. I chose to buy since they can be used later in the course. Any other questions feel free to ask...good luck! Get Microbilogy out of the way prior to Nusring class if possible as well as AP2..trust me the first semester in the Nursing program is going to be a lot of work and the classes to get out of the way are the two I said, unless you already have them completed. Try and take Dr. Cronan at Winter Haven for Micro. She was great.

I am also going to apply for Spring semester 2015. As well as a few other Schools. End of this month taking teas test.

Thank you so much for your advice and knowledge :) I already have all of my co-requisites out of the way :) So I should be good as far as that goes..How are you liking the classes? Does everything seem to be pretty organized? I'm trying to decide if I wanted to apply to HCC as well... I don't know which one is better...what is your personal opinion?

Have you taken the Teas before? OR have you been using the practice test? I hope we both get accepted :) I haven't heard many people say that they are applying for the program this semester...but that doesn't mean anything. Although I did have a professor tell me that generally it is easier to get into the spring semesters than the Fall semesters!

This will be my first time taking the teas exam. A bit nervous on taking it but hoping for the best. I actually purchased the ATI book and studying from it. It has been very helpful with reviewing material.

I took the teas and scored an 80 and I have a 3.4 gpa . I hope thats good enough to get into Polk states program since I have already been denied at Hcc.

I spoke to the director a few days ago, she said they weigh TEAS very heavily. I got an 88 on mine with a 2.9 GPA, haven't taken micro since I'm still on the fence about PSC. Even though my gpa was low, she almost assured me I'd get in with that TEAS, she could've been lying. I would suggest taking the TEAS over again to get in mid 80s. Good luck
