pneumatic compression stockings leaving them off too long???

Pneumatic Compression / Sequential Compression Stockings

This has been bugging me for days...

I have heard - if a pt has decreased mobility and you leave the

pneumatic compression stockings off for >2hours and then place the

compression stockings back on - you could potentially dislodge a clot

that formed in their leg and cause a PE...???

I cannot find any research/evidence to support it but I have heard it

more than once...

Anyone have anything to add?? Anything would be much appreciated.

This used to be on the package that the sleeves came in when we first started using these. Reality is that this isn't done, and probably should be.

I would suggest going back to the company and asking for some researched evidence.
