Hello all! How realistic is it for a new grad PMHNP to find a "competitive" wage working from home? I keep hearing that there's such a shortage in mental health, that NPs can make a lot of money, and see a plethora of remote job postings, but what is reality?

What causes you to be interested in psych? I am asking because you previously posted this:
"I know many nurses have posted about this, but I can't find anything recent. Please don't judge me, but I am at a point in my life and career where I want minimal to no contact with patients and pretty much work behind the scenes. No wknds or holidays. I'm very tech savvy and task oriented. Variety of experience. I would REALLY love to work from home and know there are a plethora of nurses wanting this, too, but I don't know anyone personally who is doing this. If you work from home, would you please give details on your job and what you like/don't like? Thank u in advance! "
Psych, even if done remotely, is not "work behind the scenes." For remote work, one uses video meetings with patients all day long. It is a very intense experience and can be very draining emotionally. While we certainly need more good PMHNPs, please think very carefully before choosing psych as a specialty. If you can, try to shadow a couple of PMHNPs to get a good idea of what is involved.
Good luck.

I think it can be trickier to find a fully remote job with a competitive wage as a new grad. This is not a job I would every do for just the money......it will burn someone out pretty fast if they don't have a heart and a strong foundation for this field.
