Pmhnp hiring question

Published

Hi - I know that it was common in the past for nurses to get sign-on bonuses and help with relocation, but not very common now. I've seen some job advertisements lately for PMHNPs which offer both; is that standard for this particular position? Maybe it varies based on location - I'm in the Boston MA area. Thank you for any information ?

I will graduate in May and have been offered many jobs that offer relocation pay sign on bonuses, and tuition reimbursement. Unfortunately we are not in a position where we can move right now. I was even offered one job that when I told them I couldn't move they offered to pay mileage at .54 a mile both ways a total of 240 miles a day 5 days a week. Just not feasible right now with younger kids.

Under the affordable care act 7.2 million people have mental health coverage who have not had it before. There are only 12,000 PMHNP in the entire country and the number of psychiatrists are dwindling.

Hi Twinkerrs,

Do you know what area of the country is actively recruiting psych NPs? From what I've read the west (North and South) is pretty good, I've also heard good things about the Northeast. I will be graduating next year and though I have to spend my first 2 years in a health provider shortage area, after that I'm totally opening to relocating somewhere (assuming that I don't want to stay at my HPSA site) were PMHNPs are paid well and autonomous.

The north is pretty good-- Iowa, Maine, Ohio, Michigan-- those are where I heard from recuriters--- It's freaking cold (for me) so no way I am moving there.. I moved back to southeast, it is super pretty and green and I want to live here ! but the pay is disappointingly low here :( Actually, the shortage has been alleviated somewhat. It might be filled in the next few years with new grads. I have been looking for telepsych jobs and I could not find any now. At least, they can find a on-site person to provide the service now. But I think the north would be good. No many people like cold weather so it will be the last place to get saturated. And of course, Alaska,.. heard of good salary but it is probably the last choice for almost anyone. I am saddened by the disparity of pay across the country. I really don't want to move again but no Alaska or cold for me..

Hi harmonizer,

Please PM me if you come across anything in Telepsychiatry. I have been desperately searching myself. I was told by a recruiter once that opportunities are rare and therefore reserved for psychiatrists who traditionally work for less pay when they arise. Thanks.
