PMHNP at Anderson University

Nursing Students NP Students

Hello! Does anyone have any experience with Anderson University in South Carolina? They are fairly new to PMHNP (2015 or 2016) and I am unable to find anyone that has or is attending the program. I've been accepted into Maryville University (all online) but Anderson is a FT program vs PT and costs about $13k less. Any insight is appreciated!

Thanks!!

I am liking the program a lot. The classes are online, but small and the instructors are available via email or phone call and are helpful and seem to care about teaching us what we need to know and helping out more when needed. We do have to go to campus for either two or three days per semester (consecutive days). This was for check offs, guest speakers and some lectures for our regular classes. These are required visits. I live close by, but we did have several students travel to Greenville for this. We do have a faith based class, one credit hour each semester. There is prayer before different activities and such. Many of the students and instructors do talk about their faith openly. I would recommend the program. They do not specify the required experience. I know we do have a new grad in program ,but she has a previous psych degree. The minimum GPA to apply is 3.2, but I don't know what the cut off was for those accepted into program. Overall, I think we are a rather diverse group and can not say exactly what they are looking for. I had nine years nursing experience with 7.5 years in mental health when I applied. Good luck, I think you will like it if you decide to apply.

Hello dear, thank you for this information. I just got admission to the program. but i am very spectical abt alot of things. I will be working 3 12hrs shifts too. Am worried its going to be alot of work since we would be taking at least 3 classes and clinical. How has it been for you. hows the workload- quizes, discussions, exams, Essays etc. Am trying to make my final decision. thank you

Hi, It is going well. Busy, but manageable so far. Are you looking at DNP program? MSN is 4 or 5 classes in addition to clinical time. I have managed to remain working full-time so far. Some of my cohort has cut back but others are still work full-time as well. I have requested a day off work every week over summer semester since it is a shorter semester. I have a few weeks that have seemed like too much is due at once but I try to keep ahead so they aren't too bad. I like that the program is small. The instructors all seem to want to see the students succeed and are helpful when needed. They also do a good job of listening to student suggestions and making changes as needed. It does seem like too much at times but I just focus on the number of months left and it doesn't seem like too long to keep going.

Thank you so much. Can we pls exchange emails. I have a fews questions I would like to ask you pls. My email is [email protected].

I would really appreciate if you would give me your contact, so I can reach out. Thank you again

Hey, I know this is an old thread. But do any of you who went through the program have any information on how competitive the acceptance is? I applied to the PMHNP track for Fall 2020. Feeling pretty good about my application, waiting until March/April to find out will be the death of me.

Hey, I recently applied to the PMHNP program as well. I was informed they accept 6 to 12 students per cohort. I am not sure how many applicants are submitted per term. I am also hopeful I am accepted.

I think we are about 12 - 15 in my cohort. Am sure they get a lot of applications. but once you meet their requirement and write a good essay. they should take you

12 to 15 sounds a whole lot better than 6 to 12. Thank you for the information.

My cohort started with 12.

Do you mind me asking a little bit about your background? Like your GPA, experience etc?

I had a good bit of psych experience, but several in my cohort did not. I believe essay is biggest factor. GPA 3.8ish.

I also applied for the Fall 2020 program and was concerned regarding the number of classes. Can you share what your classes were the first couple of semesters? Or do you have a program outline?

Thanks so much!

The faith based approach as well as the cost/clinical hours really attracts me to this program. I just want to make sure I can complete it well with my current work commitments.
