I will be very glad if someone could give me a tip on the format of how to write a teaching plan for my project. My topic of choice is "Breast Examination for women over 40yrs", addressed to a group of women in a local church. I will also appreciate directions to a site where I can view sample nursing essays to get an idea of what to do and get the information from. Thanks

i'm not sure on the specific format on how to write a teaching plan anymore. the textbook that i had when i was in school is long gone. don't you have a small book on this? or, had a lecture on it in school?

as for the actual presentation of the material to patients, you can find lots of examples on the internet on lots of websites that have information for consumers. the most accessed one is probably medline plus (http://www.medlineplus.gov/). i listed a number of other ones on this thread some time ago:

https://allnurses.com/forums/f205/medical-disease-information-treatment-procedures-test-reference-websites-258109.html - medical disease information/treatment/procedures/test reference websites. the national cancer institute (you will find the web address on the above thread) should have information, if not a teaching tool, on their website for doing a breast exam. so should the american cancer society website.

A quick check on the Internet and I found this: http://www.ihs.gov/NonMedicalPrograms/HealthEd/PDF/PtEd_DesignUse_of_Teaching_Module.pdf

It looks very much like the steps we followed for the teaching plans we did in my BSN program. The goals and objectives sound like the things we had to do as well as list the materials and specific educational activity we had planned (lecture, demonstration, etc.)

Have fun!

thank you so much for the lead with the links, we are yet to cover teaching techniques next week, she however wants us to go and do a research into it. with this lead i can do my research.

Actually, now that I've had some time to think about this, just about every class I've gone to, whether a formal college class or a continuing education class, often begins with the educator passing out the teaching plan which usually includes the goal of the course along with the objectives and teaching methods as well as how we will be evaluated (usually some kind of testing or post-evaluation done by the participants). I'll bet if you look at what you got your first day of nursing class was the same similar thing. It's coming back to me now. For a patient presentation it doesn't have to be so extensive as for a formal college class but I remember we did have to have a goal and objectives and attach an outline of our presentation. I think the website I found pretty much summed it up. We had a small little textbook to help us on this as well. It's really not that difficult to do. Just a matter of getting all the steps together in the right order. And, I'm serious about checking out those websites on the breast exam teaching. You'll probably find the talk already organized and done for you. You just have to put it in your own words. You can probably print out some of the stuff you find as handouts. Participants love handouts, especially if they have pictures, and you can also attach them to the paperwork you turn in to your instructor!

thanks daytonight, i downloaded the information from the links you gave me. thanks a lot, you have been a great help, we all need cyber preceptors like you.thanks :-)
