Please recommend hospitals in Atlanta or Savannah

I might end up in one of four different places in the US, depending on which school accepts my husband for the AA (anesthesiologist assistant) program and am wondering which hospitals would be recommended by the good people here at allnurses. Ideally I would like a not for profit teaching facility with a good ICU training program, but I will take any hospital that is committed to it's nurses.

thanks!

Teaching hospitals in Atlanta:

Grady Memorial Hospital (not recommended)

Atlanta Medical Center (not recommended)

Emory University Hospital

Crawford Long Memorial Hospital(part of the Emory system)

All of the above hospitals are in the city.

It really depends on where you live as to where you want to practice because trust me the commute in Atlanta is a serious deal.

I do not recommend Grady because staffing levels make it a dangerous place to practice, dangerous to your license that it is. But do not be mistaken, there are those who love it, it just depends on what is your cup of tea.

I don't recommend Atlanta Medical because it is just simply a bad place to work. Personal bias.

Other good intown hospitals are Piedmont Hospital and Northside. They are not teaching hospitals but they are bustling and I think they are good places to work.

thank you sharon

safe staffing is the main indicator of a good place to work, IMHO. i really appreciate the heads up. i enjoy working with the homeless population and have begun to take a serious interest in sickle cell patients especially (tough patients!) but not enough to risk my license.

Memorial University Health Medical Center in Savannah is where i work and is a TOP NOTCH hospital. I have NOTHING but good things to say about this hospital and how it treats nurses and how it runs the hospital.

I'm at Emory as a Chemo nurse - the commute for me isn't too bad - about 45 minutes in the AM and an hour on PMs, but parking is a pain (my second day I got a $35 ticket), and the pay is fairly well below Atlanta averages (mine is an RN III OCN position). Emory is a top-notch teaching facility for physicians, but I was surprised when I went to work there that there were no nursing students to precept. They must all do their internships/preceptorships on inpatient units. I graduated from Iowa, so I have no idea about educational opportunities in Atlanta (except that Emory is too rich for the salary they pay me) :nurse:

In Atlanta, also consider St. Joseph's Hospital Atlanta, Piedmont Hospital, Northlake Medical Center, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Scottish Rite and Egleston Hospitals).

I am communicating with Memorial Health in Savannah, GA for a graduate nurse residency program. I am graduating in december from a BSN-RN program. What do you all think my starting pay will be like? I just want to have an idea of what my salary and living expenses will be like if and when i move to savannah, GA. Can someone PLEASE communicate to me the good and bad about this hospital. I hear it is a pretty good hospital.

Waiting eagerly for a reply.

great hospital-i just left there less than two weeks ago, to move back to Texas. GREAT GREAT hospital. run very well, with great folks. cost of living is outrageous in Savannah, but i personally wouldnt feel SAFE living anywhere except the islands. i lived on Wilmington Island. that is the ONLY place i would EVER consider living in, if i were you. the BEST apartments are Buccaneer Trace Apts on the island. friendly folks, great management, VERY SAFE-dont have to lock your doors EVER, dog friendly. BUT VERY EXPENSIVE. but i wouldnt have had it any other way. the cost to feel safe was worth it. email me if you have any questions!
