Please Help!!!!!!

hello all,

I'm considering going back to school to become RN. I already have a Bachelors in Health Administration. I'm not good in math or science. How much of a hinderence will that be? I still have to take biology, chemisty and anatomy&physiology if i decide to go thru this...I'm not one of those that is gifted I have to re-read things to understand things completely...am I trying something that is impossible if I'm not good in math and science....I'm just scared that I wont make it and if I do I just don't want to make a mistake ............someone please tell me something

You'll be fine. It sucks to get your pre-reqs done but it will be so worth it. I'm definitely not a wiz in math or science, but I worked hard and got into a good school. I will graduate in May. If I can do it so can you!!!

with math - do all the practice review questions (this helps very much)

I'm not good at math either, but I've managed to pass all my drug calc tests in nursing school. I love science (with the exception of chemistry) and I didnt mind studying it while doing my pre-reqs. I managed to get good grades in my pre-req science classes as well.

I'm a 3rd year nursing student in a BSN program. If I can do it, you can too!

Good luck to you!

this is definitely doable

good luck

I suggest you read other threads in this forum to see what nursing is really like before you go back to school.

I really think you'll be okay. You don't have to do any geometery or anything for nursing. It is fairly simple math & it really makes A LOT more sense when you see it used on the floor/clinical setting. It helps to have a good background in Science, but I think you'll pick that up as you go along. By no means do I think any of us are an expert. The human body is absolutely stunning piece of work & anybody that thinks they know it all, somebody will somehow prove them wrong.

Goodluck!

I haven't been accepted to NS yet, but as far as the pre-reqs go math and science ARE important. I am not good at math, nor do I like it; but I LOVE LOVE LOVE science..but the biology kind of science, not the chemistry kind (chemistry is more math-ish science anyways)

I had to work really hard in my pre-req math class (MTH 111 Pre-Calc). I've never worked so hard in my life for a B. I spent literally every afternoon in the free tutorial lab and I did ALL the extra credit and I think the instructor took pity on me and let me squeak by with a B because I don't think I got over a 75 on any of the tests.

Science, on the other hand, (especially the A&P) is pretty important that you like it. If you think about it, nursing is a scientific profession. I'm not trying to scare you away, but just suggesting that if you LIKE learning about biology and the human body then maybe it isn't really necessary that you be good at it, but if you apply yourself and you truly like it you'll be OK, but if you don't even like science, then I think it would be really tough to succeed, not impossible, just tough.

My advice would be to take the A&P alone if you can....it's a demanding course...or if nothing else take it with "easier" courses such as PE or something you enjoy like psychology etc....don't do what I did and take A&P, Micro & Nutrition & Writing all in 1 term...I pulled it off but it was a stupid decision on my part and I don't recommend it.

I think that if you really want it, and you try hard and are willing to make sacrifices in your personal life, then you can do it, regardless of having a "natural talent".

You might do the aptitude testing in the book "Discover What You're Best At" by Barry & Linda Gale. This testing could help you decide whether you have the aptitudes for a nursing career or find other career ideas. I picked up the book used for 5 bucks.
