Hi everyone, I really need some advice! I'm currently enrolled in an accelerated nursing program but I'm seriously considering dropping out. I want to be a nurse and love nursing, but I have completely lost faith in my program. It has a low NCLEX passing rate and now that I've finished half the program, I can see why. Professors don't teach and frequently change exam and assignment guidelines, dates of exams, how much exams are worth, etc. at the last minute, making it very difficult to manage the workload. They give out incorrect information (to hear mitral heart sounds, place stethoscope under the armpit?!) and do not give feedback on exams or assignments, so it's very hard to improve. I got into my program with a 4.0 GPA in the prerequisites and a 93 on the HESI A2. After 18 credits, my nursing GPA is a 3.57. I am in danger of failing two courses, however. Three people have left my class of twenty already and half the class failed our most recent exam. I have tried speaking to professors about how to improve my grades and they have little helpful advice, if they are even willing to meet with me. I think I would perhaps fare better at a different nursing school, with more academic integrity. Would it be possible to go to another school if I dropped out now and had 5 Ws on my transcript from this semester? Does my nursing school experience so far qualify me to do any other kind of health care work? I'm at the end of my rope.. I didn't want to go into too much detail here about the lack of integrity of my program, but I have become so distressed by this situation that I was recently prescribed Zoloft and Alprazolam and have started seeing a therapist. I don't want to stay in this awful program, but I don't want to give up on my dream of working in health care. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

I am sorry that this is happening to you. I would think that your high GPA would allow you to transfer and more academic nursing schools would understand if you transferred, but I am still in nursing school myself.
With the extreme amount of information we are given in nursing school, we really need good, accurate teachers to show us what to focus on. It sounds like the stress from this school is something that you shouldn't have to face. Best wishes in achieving your dreams.

It would be better to withdraw than to fail out. If other programs ask, just say you had personal and medical reasons. There is no need to go into more detail than that.

I don't suggest dropping out; you must complete this semester to the best of your ability. In the mean time, you should research other nursing programs and transfer to another program. The problem you are facing at this point is many schools and nursing programs have stipulations regarding the maximum number of withdrawals you can have on your transcript, thus it's important for your to start researching other programs.
In the meantime, seek assistance from Youtube.com and other resources to help you get through the semester.

What kind of school is this?? Will your credits transfer? If the school has low pass rates, is it accredited??
