Please help, panicking as we speak!

Hey guys. I am scheduled to take the HESI exam, or hope to schedule to take it on April 8th. I previously purchased the Kaplan study guide for nurse entry exams, but I am hearing mixed reviews on who's book is better, the HESI or Kaplan.

Can anyone who used the Kaplan, or probably has had experienced with both books, provide me with some feedback. I have been studying the Kaplan one, basically off and on since January and basically doing it every day for 2 to 3 hours, since a week ago to basically get more prepared for it on April 8th.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to go and purchase the HESI study guide or book for this exam, and already spent so long studying using the Kaplan's book.

You can never be too prepared. I would try to purchase a used book that is cheap since you are getting mixed reviews on both. Anything that will be helpful and prepare you for the test! And when you're done using both, you could resale it to someone else to get your money back.

I decided to purchase the HESI: Admission Assessment Exam Review from the evole people, as an online course. I guess I would have covered all over my bases, by utilizing both people...

GROWNSKATER1985,

I don't know from your post if you've taken the HESI before, but I'm assuming you havn't so here's a few things you really need to study: Make sure you study DNA, RNA, ribosomes, transcription, different muscles throughout the body, study the anatomy of the ear, endoplasmic reticulum- these will all be on the test; I can't narrow it down specifically, because as soon as I walked out of the testing center, I forgot every question It was presented with! If you need specifics for math, let me know; English. You really don't have time to get another book sent to you to study so, I'm including a link to the evolve website; you can actually pay like $20 or so to get an online version of the hesi book that you can have at your finger tips right away and I advise you to buy it for the vocabulary, not only for the English section, but for the A&P section as well! Here's the link: https://evolve.elsevier.com/cs/Satellite/StudentHome?Audience=Student

Hope this helps you a little and good luck!

Thanks for the response Kasey. Actually I did purchase the HESI book online, and I have been using it to help prepare myself. My date was pushed back to April 14th, as the April 8th appointment date, was already maxed up. So, I got some more days to study, and I hope with all of these resources, I come up on top of this.

Thanks again, and I greatly appreciate it!

Wonderful!!! I'm glad you purchased it; I think it will help you alot! Know all the different math examples- it's pretty easy and just like what you see in the guide. English can get a little tricky for some when it comes to the vocabulary; it just depends how vast an individual's vocabulary is! A&P...ughhh!! Now matter how hard you try to prepare for this section, when you see it on the test, you will swear it was written in Latin or something! A lot of people have issues with the A&P, including myself! Math, I got a 98, English*Reading Comp*Grammar , all in the 90-96 range- but the A&P...76! Brought my Hesi score down big time, so just study as much as you can! If you're strong in one area, then don't spend a lot of time reviewing that area. Spend your time on A&P!! Good Luck!

Yeah, I am going through it all. Although my nursing program doesn't require the sciences section as part of their required sections to get into the program. So it's only the Math, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension and Grammar section that counts. But the others don't.

I am still looking through the Science sections and hope that my previous knowledge thus far from my pre-requisites, it will assist me.

I heard some people say that the vocabulary is more like, medical based vocab. So anything that a nurse may use, it's in there, like also shown on the HESI online study guide....That's the main section I am most worried about. Is the Vocab, to be honest. Like the other parts of vocab, I can get, but the literal meaning where you gotta just know it, is where I am having problems.

I totally understand!! You see, vocabulary is so easy for me because I love the english language and honestly, learning a new word here and there is quite fun- if you can believe that! But others find their niche in the Science's, which I can not stand!! It's like Greek to me! Any Science subject, I don't care what it is, scares me to death!! Just study those words and variations or synonyms of each to get a grasp on the types of words that may come up on the exam. You're gonna do great, I know it!!
