Please help need advice :-(

Without knowing what your long-term goals or other personal info or whether the schools accept transfer credits from the other schols, I'll just give you info based on what my locality offers. The university will probably require a higher GPA but may accept more of your credits, also, the BSN degree will benefit you more for a variety of jobs once you graduate. Ex: public health nurses in my state have to have a BSN. If time is an issue for you get your name on every one of the waiting lists or go down to the schools and visit with a career counsellor to see what your options actually are at this time. You may be able to petition to get into your old school. Is schooling online an option? I don't know much about it but that's also an option. Good luck to you!

That's not fair. At my school, if you have to take a year off you can test back into the program and start where you left off. Anyway I don't really have any advice. I don't think I would start all over again...so I would probably get into the BSN program. Good luck!

Hello there! First let me explain my background so you know where I'm coming from, then I'll ask the questions that's troubling me. I was accepted in an ADN Program in a community college and unfortunately due to illness (that lasted one whole year) I was only able to complete three semesters instead of the required four semesters . I've tried to go back to my old school and despite that I was in good standing, the Director of the RN Program explained to me that they are unable to accept me again due to the long waiting list of students trying to get into the program. Unfortunately the other ADN program near me will not allow me to start back where I left off meaning that I would have to start over again. The only place that MIGHT POSSIBLY allow me to start back where I left off is at the University near my house, but that will be a BSN program and will take much longer than an ADN program. Additionally, the tuition for the BSN will be a lot higher than the tuition for the ADN. Now the questions that's been troubling me are should I try to apply to the university for a BSN or to the community college for an ADN ? Additionally, will the other nurses that I've met in hospitals while I was in school think negatively of me if they see me start all over again?

I am surprised this is their rationale when you would be starting again as a 4th semester, we have lost students every class, which makes room for those lost in other semesters. The waiting list doesn't apply to these students (except first semester) because everyone on the waitlist is starting first semester, not 2nd 3rd and 4th. Sounds like your getting the runaround.

Don't worry about what anyone else things, it has nothing to do with them. Most people face struggles in nursing school for various reasons. I have never thought bad of students that are readdmits to our program and I have never heard a nurse speak bad either. They see so many students, they aren't keeping tacking who is in what semester.

Seems kinda strange to me also. Maybe you can take this up with the "higher-ups" at your college. Seems silly to start all over again. If you cannot pick up where you left off, going on for your BSN would be a great next step. A BSN will open up more doors for you also! Many of the hospitals in my area are moving toward hiring nurses with BSN degrees only.
